I stupidly was playing around with the settings for my NVidia GeForce4 T14200 and must have done something really bad.
I can no longer even access the vid card utility screen...it won't run at all.
When I load AH I get a green band and I can see the wire of the clipboard...that is it.
In DXDiag the Directdraw acceleration is not availiable, The Direct 3D acceleration is not availiable and AGP texture acceleration is not availiable.
I tried to re-install DirectX...no go.
I have updated the drivers on the T14200 3 times.
Help. How can I fix this?

Tried removing your Detonator Drivers completely? (NV stray file remover)
Try the program from http://www.guru3d.com - they also have good forums there too!

Detonator drivers?
I have no idea what they are...I'm not a computer guru at all..just know enough to be dangerous.
I just need my desktop manager to run, then I think I can fix what I did...I just don't know why it won't.

First re-download the NVidia drivers (in case the one you have are corrupted)
Then delete your old drivers using the add/remove program icon in your control panel (there should be a Nvidia entry)
Then get driver cleaner and delete the remaining trace of your Nvidia drivers
http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/
Reboot
re-install your drivers
Reboot
re-install directX
If all fail take your credit card and

Trying it now Straffo.
Fingers crossed.
-
In the add/remove I have two Nvidia entries...one is NVidia Display driver the other is NVidia Windows 2000/XP display drivers.
Should I delete both?
-
yep ,but don't be surprised if only one work :)
-
No go.
Now when I look in add/remove programs I don't even see an Nvidia entry to remove so that I can try again.
.
-
Now I am really in a mess.
ARRRRGGGGGGGG
Stupid computers.
I checked the windows update and lo and behold there is Nvidia software update...but it fails on installation every time.
This is sooooo frustrating.
-
Well...I am truly buggered now.
My GeForce4 card is now not even recognised in the hardware profile.
If I try to add new hardware it states that the registry entries are incorrect or corrupted.
Now what?
Can I just do a regedit and get rid of NVidia altogether? Do I deleted every instance of NVidia it finds?

get the 30.82 drivers here :
you will need some try as the server look to be satured.

go here for ME/98

your fuct..............time for a fresh install of XP
-
Why a whole install of XP?
I'm thinking a new vid card will solve the problem. This one has given me grief from day one.
I'm just a bit concerned about all of the registry entries nVidia has in my system.
-
Curv, what happened when you went into the "add/remove" applications thingie and selected the Nvideo drivers? Did it lockup during the uninstall? Did it complete successfully?
Did you try that "NV stray file remover" that Nexx suggested above?
-
It is impossible to fix this thing on a bbs.
Please just can someone anser this question:
If I get rid of the NVidia card and install another video card..will all the regisrty entries that NVidia had placed in there affect the new card?
-
It shouldn't interfere if you get an ATI Radeon. If you get another Nvidia, then you may have problems.
-
I can get a ATI Radion 9600 128 meg DDR Ram.
Will this be a decent card?
-
Curv,
2 things.
1) XP has a 'driver rollback' feature that might help. If the card isn't listed in the hardware profile then try doing stuff to whatever is, there must be something listed as a video output device or the screen would stay blank. Generic VGA perhaps? Or does the motherboard you're using have an on board graphics chip it resorts to when numpties delete the registry ;).
2) Reinstalling XP is a doddle compared to buying and installing a new card. You can either over-right the current install (XP will pick up and support most of your currently installed applications) or you can create a new partition on your HDD and install XP to the new drive as a fresh install, XP will happily run dual boot until you remove the old install once the new one is running fine.

Swoop, I think the card was a lemon from the get-go.
Fresh install will not fix that fact. AH worked okay as did UV because they were low intensity graphics card programs (relatively speaking). All the first person shooters just were a nightmare with this card.
Plus...I have NO idea where the XP install disks are...and creating a partition? Are you mad? I hae no clue there.
I tried the driver roll-back thing..no go.

it got a good price/performance ratio, I got one.
Btw looking at your troubles I'm affraid you can't escape a complete re-install of your PC :(
-
All hail ATI.
Card worked..now I'm playing everything at high quality levels. I knew I had a lemon on my hands before

Still make sure to use the NV stray file remover as it can hinder the performance of the ATI card. I upgraded from a Ti4200 to a Radeon 9800 and after removing the stray nvidea files the performance went up even more.

Did so Rut..thanks for the link.
It is like I have a whole new computer now...in fact I had to turn down my resolution in AH because it was weird flying with it set as high as it can go. :)
