Looking for new computer to start playing AH again, whats a good choice for $700-$900 range?
-
fediddleIN FURBALL WEE-... oh, nevermind. :)
I'm not much for computer advice, though. Sorry :(
-
Anything with 2.5ghz or higher processor, a 533 or faster front side bus, 512 plus memory and of course an ATI 9700 pro or better.
I built the machine above around last Dec. for about 1400 bucks, I think you could do it now for anywhere from 600 to 900 bucks.
LOL Rut hehehe.
Good luck!

heyas lazer
whatever you do get a PC with an AGP port (NOT built in video) and get a good vid card for AHII!
-
Its cheap to build a good one.The 2500 AMD Barton core is nice, but its not wide spread enough to be "regular" Takes a board that supports it.Which btw I found out after buying it and not having the proper board support.Go 2.5 or higher gig wise.Gig of good ram and a mid priced vid card.Onboard anything is bad,Eats resources.SB Live is a cood dependable card.

Yeah.. this is all good information if i wasn't all around retarded about computers, i just need a good company name and i will find the best system for the money, or try to anyways. I am the type of guy that goes to Best Buy or Wal-Mart for his computers. With that said, whats a good choice?
-
nice1
Dude!! Your gettin a dell.
-
Im not getting a Dell just because of that homosexual Steve guy they put in their commercials. I think his name is Steve anyways, but then again, I don't really give a damn. ;)
-
Steven smoked pot and was fired.
Lazer you TARD, welcome back :)
Please stay away from Wal-mart. If you MUST, try not to ask one of the illegal aliens for computer help.
-
Hey... go Steve, I take my negative comments back about him. Should be back in a few weeks here Oct, hopefully I don't get too shot up. :D

Just Drive over to LaCrosse and Hit the Best Buy, Get a Cheap Emachine.
They are Great Bang for the Buck. Iv had a few and they have been very reliable and solid for me.
The Suggestion of getting one that uses an AGP Slot for Video is a good one. This is something that you might want to upgrade later.

Stay away from proprietary machines(Dell, Gateway, Compaq)....just find any small computer store and have them build you one....will work much better and you'll have local support. Also, the machine will be upgradable to a higher degree than a proprietary box.
Get the best motherboard you can afford....that alone will allow you to upgrade the processor....vid card, nothing less than a Radeon 9700 pro.
-
Heheheheh lol.
Yeah that guys is gay.
-
Build it yourself! It's not hard!
Get a DFI Lan Party Pro875B with any Intel socket 478 CPU (min. 2.4Ghz), 1 Gig of memory (or more), an Albatron Ti4680 graphics card, and an Antec TruePower 550 Watt power supply with the case of your choice. You could easily keep that in your price range while maintaining a system you could upgrade as time requires.
-
Yeah, I second the recommendation to get your own custom machine built at a local computer store (assuming the store has a long and well-deserved good reputation).
Decide what you want your machine to do, research the main component alternatives, get the computer shop's recommendations, and go for it!
Don't forget to check the latest offerings in keyboards, mice, joysticks, and other goodies. Be sure the computer has enough power and cooling for everything you want to do.
You might wind up getting the core computer at the small local expert computer shop and some of the accessories at larger chains like CompUSA. Just be sure you talk with the best experts available and get good guarantees.

If you don't see anything you like locally I'd give Tiger Direct a try.
http://www.tigerdirect.com
I've bought stuff from them before (business servers/workstations) and always have been treated well. I was looking thru there "gaming pc's" and a couple looked pretty decent for the buck (I build my own so not sure what a "good" boxed price is).

Here is the link to one possibility.

there is nothing like the feeling of going through the first boot of a system you just created on your own with your own hand picked parts.
after building my first ill never go back to pre-built systems
-
Hehehe lol until you hit a problem you cant figure out.
But you are right when it all goes well it is the best feeling.

"Build it, and they will come"

If you're going to put together your own computer then place a lot of emphasis on the motherboard. The motherboard can either make or break the performance you seek. The nForce mboards from Mach Speed are great, and they can be found cheaply at http://www.tigerdirect.com (very reliable source for parts.)
