Title: Poll: Which fans take their fandom too far?
Post by: gofaster on November 21, 2003, 01:31:58 PM
Today's IMDB.Com poll question:

Quote
Which fans, on average, do you think take their fandom too far in their daily lives?
 - Star Wars fans
 - Star Trek fans
 - Lord of the Rings fans
 - Harry Potter fans
 - Rocky Horror fans
 - Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans
 - Matrix fans
 - All of 'em!
 - Other

I couldn't vote because I couldn't remember my password to log-on, but if I had, I'd probably vote "Star Wars fans" by process of elimination.

Star Trek fans get away with dressing like Klingons because at least ST tries to make some sort of social contribution through the morality of its stories.

LOTR fans get an automatic bye because they're imitating classic literature.

Harry Potter fans can get excusals because the stories are oriented towards children, and children always dress in costumes anyway.

Rocky Horror fans are doing it for the same reason people dress up for Halloween, or go Goth year round.  Its a social lifestyle decision.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Matrix?  Haven't seen anybody dressing up like that.

So, really, that just leaves the Star Wars fans.

I was told by an Aggie that BEVO is the name of the U Texas Longhorn because the Aggies once beat the Longhorns 13 - 0 and then branded the score on the side of the UT mascot.

UT folks then took out a hot poker and carved the 13 - 0 into BEVO

Is that the case?

Those above mentioned cults are bad, what about the below?

What about the 'Friends', 'Seinfeld', and the 'Oprah' shows?

Those have almost a cult following...
