I have made a terrain of the Marianas Islands to include Iwo Jima and Chichi Jima which were attacked by Task Force 58 as part of the FORAGER operation during WWII. There are also nine aircraft carriers in three groups and the supply groups which were the IJN First Mobile Force west of Guam that were attacked as part of the Marianas Turkey Shoot. If anyone is interested I’ll send it to you in ZIP format to include the RES File and the Bitmap File if you want to change the default weather.

Hi Jose,
I'd love to see what you've done with it... your Pearl Harbor was really nice. :)
-
Thanks, Goose... I'll check it out when I get home tonight. :)

Can you send me a pick of the Clipboard map,I would like to see the base layout to determine if it is sutable for use in the CT, if so I would love to use it in a couple weeks in the CT, I could even get you some Skins for it posably from the Okinawa map.
E mail me or post hear:)

Hey Goose, that's a very good map... very nice islands.
Let me ask you a couple of questions...
1. What do you use for elevation data? Your elevations look pretty good, so I'm guessing that you use DTEDs or something similar?
2. Do you like creating terrains?
-
I am interested it, too! Can you post it to:
info@kesalesket.net
Thx!

Brady: I checked it offline and the map looks good. it is 512 miles x 512 miles, so maybe it is too big to CT use... in the other hand it is mainly ocean and the isles in the SE and NE corners are very near each other...
Maybe we can create couple of "imagination" airfields on the little isles between Iwo Jima and Saipan? We can also use Okinawa-textures with it, if you plan to use this map in the CT.
Couple of questions Jose:
1) Are the airfields, ports, cities etc. historical?
2) Is the scale 1:1, I mean are the distanges between isles from the real life?
3) Can you send all the Terrain Editor files to me to closer look?
4) If Brady wants this to Combat Theater, do you mind if I make couple of repairs and adjustments to it?
Couple of questions Dux and Brady:
1) Your opinion of this map, is is good to CT (I mean mainly the scale)?
2) If needed, can you create the CBM to it Dux?
3) Brady, was there naval battle between US and Japanese Fleets on the west part of this map (look the historical map)?

Looks like a great map, except the island sizes are a tad big. I guess putting in the realistic 3 mile long Iwo Jima would be kind of pointless, since it is such a large map.
-
I checked it out myself and made a list of changes that would help make it CT friendly and sent them to Joe, he mentioned he was going to work on it.
-
Ok Brady. I can send Okinawa terrain textures and skins to Jose, if needed, but I discussed with him and I can do it, too! I have the Marianas TE files in my computer and I know the HTC and CT standards we need with this map.
Send me the adjustments list you want there!;)
-
OK can you send me the clipboard map then again, so I can look it over it has been a while since I saw it and I cant remember all the things I asked for. TY BTW:)
-
Brady, look up this thread, CBM is there! :D

I just don't understand why you'd want to mess with reality... honestly, I truly do not. Why not model the islands exactly the size they were? And what is the point in inventing islands that weren't there? Isn't that what CVs are for?
Honest, I'm not attacking anyone, I genuinely don't understand and am astonished at what I'm reading here. If someone cares to enlighten me... ?

The reasoning is to make it a more CT friendly map. There could be two versions of it with one being only for SEA and the other for CT.

perhaps this could be a good scenario map?
