Title: Latest aviation art "Thunderbolt's Playground"
Post by: RedDg on November 23, 2003, 11:49:18 PM
A big thanks to Hajo for commissioning this project.  It's a bit of a risk to hire an unknown artist, especially one you've never met.  I sincerely hope I've put on canvas something he'll enjoy for a long time.  We'll find out Friday when we get together for delivery.:D

I've got some great things in store for my website, and all the paperwork forming my company is finished.  Things always progress slower than I'd like, but will be worth it.  Tell you what tho', I no longer measure drawings in 'hours to complete'.  It's now 'pots of coffee to complete'.:D   But I love every minute.

Very nice.  Love the clouds and contrails.

It'd be even better if you could have drawn the two most beautiful fighters ever built without that fire and smoke obscuring one of them.  :)

Excellent!!!

Please, is there a larger version of the picture available for download?  I'd like to have that as wallpaper...for my office.  Okay, for my desktop.  ;)

Fantastic work....but I got the first one ever commissioned by the "soon to be famous" RedDg, certified on the back of the canvas.  :)

RedDg.....absolutely perfect.  Tarmac, Reddg captured what I

wanted perfectly.  The Gentleman has a gift....let's see if we

can help getting the word out.  I'm a long time Aviation Art Print

Collector...Taylor, Phillips and Trudgeon.  RedDgs' drawings

hold a back seat to none of the above mentioned artists IMHO.

Well done RedDg!  Cyaz Friday!!

Very impressive-is it color or b/w.  Either way a well done print that captures a lot of what it must have been like.  Now do one with the 190 victorious :>

I saw Curval's drawing first hand at the Con, it was amazing.

The closest I can come is a few doodles of Panzers in a notebook :)

Excellent work Red!

That is awesome RedDog ... although I am not surprized after viewing Curval's painting at the con.

Is your website gonna have information on we can contract you to make a custom drawing ?

I just purchase a pen-and-ink off of ebay which I love, but it just that ... pen-and-ink. You drawings have great depth and shadowing that set yours apart from others.

I hate to nitpick but I see a major problem with that picture...no P-38

Ack-Ack LOL I have a print by Robert Taylor entitled Hostile skies.

It consists of a Liberator...one engine smoking falling back from

formation.....whilst two or more 190s try to finish the Liberator off

P38s jump in and defend the Liberator....can even see holes in

the 38s' rudder canvas on which dominates the picture...38 is in

foreground.  I'm sure you can get a peep of Hostile Skies by Robt.

Taylor by doing a google search.....great print!

ok i know the old addage...

if you have to ask how much then you can't afford it LOL

but really how much for a tabloid size (around 11x17) original drawing? (or do you do only 1 size? because i'd be looking for something smaller to put above the PC not a centerpiece for a livingroom)

maybe even an 8x10 type thing.

email me through the board if you dont want to post the info.

Red,

When I went to the Dayton airshow with the Con attendees in Indy I was totally UNIMPRESSED with the various T-shirts, posters and other "stuff" they had for sale.

If I were you I would use these airshows as a stepping stone to getting your business up and running.

Obviously you will need a bigger portfolio to begin this, but once you have a collection you can:

1.  Make frameable prints of the drawings you have done and sell them.

2.  Offer commissioned drawings and use testimonials from former customers, such as myself, as proof of your ability, integrity and pride.

I think over a million people flowed through the Dayton show alone....all people who have an affinity for aircraft.  It would be a bonanza for you man....guarennfreakinteed.

This might sound a bit odd, but that's the first "combat" piece of aviation art I've come across where the center piece of the picture is inverted. The norm in to have the canopy pointing up,  which helps keep a type of balance to the picture (indicates up too :->).

That aspect just strikes me as a very unique touch. Really catches the eye and draws you to the print as a whole.

Very nice work indeed!

Vortex....buy looking one COULD assume the Jug is into a barrel

roll to setup on other 190 that appears to be banking left to

setup on the foreground Jug.....and the 190 doesn't see the Jug

coming fast on it's 6.  Great drawing, sparks imagination.

Oh I thought the pilot was writing in his logbook "I just killed a 190" and his knee hit the control stick and flipped him upside down.
