Post by: CrzHrs on November 24, 2003, 07:37:09 PM
Petition HTC to dissolve the Moderator, this is one of the things America has fought to prevent, Fathers, brothers, uncles etc. died for our freedoms and now we have HTC stepping all over free speech, HTC hasnt botherd to define what will or wont get u muted, it was just instituted, and now we have mister nowhere man muting us, it has got to stop, u may not take this to be serious and thats fine, but I for one find this highly objectionable and want to see it removed, u dont like what someone is saying the squelch function has been provided, we dont need this moderator crap around, lets get on HTC's case to have it removed!

Don't want to be muted?  Don't be an ass.  More accuratly...don't continue to be an bellybutton after a moderator tells you to shut your pie hole.

BTW...You won't have the rights guaranteed to all citizens until you turn 18.

Post by: CrzHrs on November 24, 2003, 08:26:09 PM
SOB Point is nothing was said about anyone being and bellybutton which you would have been muted for so clean it up! Point: HTC has not defined what a Moderator is to mute or not mute, totally open ended which is power uncontrolled, it needs defined !

It doesnt need defined at all.  They choose to have them and they do it.  You are wrong and probably being obnoxious in the game.

Institution of higher learning.    Where do you aspire to "escaoe" from?

Do yourself a favour Corky.  Use the search feature and look for past topics on "censorship."  You'll find you don't have a leg to stand on and that HTC's policy has been clearly spelled out by them several times.  And feel free to cut & paste the word "censorship" from my post so you get accurate results.

If you had a brain you'd listen to Westy. HTC doesn't have to define jack **** to you. Whatever you did that brought on your mute, you were in affect being told not to do it. That's all the notice and defining you need. Your rights do not apply in AH and no one is twisting your arm to buy the product. Before you take this any further, be advised that HTC has the right to refuse your patronage.

Crzhrs,

As much as I agree with you-

It's their game. It's their rules. If you don't like em don't play.
That really is your only option.

I tried to fight this fight about P-squelch.  Even if you get  1-300 people to agree with you- it dont mean (steaming pile of excrement)!!!  All I got was banned for 3 weeks.

The game, the boards, it all belongs to dale. there isn't a single aspect of it that has anything to do with a democracy. This is my opinion of course, I really don't care if ANYONE agrees.

Hate to see you wastin your time like I did.

Crz, first of all, your so called free speech only applies to public or non-privately owned.

This board and the game Aces High is a privately owned bussiness. You have NO rights to THEIR property. If they dont want you to post stuff or say stuff in THEIR game and boards, they can mute, ban, etc your sorry arse.

For the record, I want Animal, SOB and CREAMO to be given moderator powers.

No brown stuff....just no tolerance when it comes to selfish people and 30 years of practical business experience which has proven out the simple fact, that in some cases, no amount of money earned justifies having to do business with malcontents.

Trust me....your friend is better off with Dale....if HTC were mine, the subscribership would be reduced day one...but hey, that's just me.

After playing Air warrior and Aces High with CrzyHrs for almost 10 years it's hard for me to believe he got muted.  We've been wingies for a long time.....and never once did I see or hear from him anything that would promote his being muted.

I wasn't online when this incident occured, but another friend from a different country (BulzEye) was online and described what happened, and in his opinion the muting wasn't warranted, and the instigator walked away with no penalty.  Kinda like an
unsportsmanlike penalty in football.....the gent who responds gets flagged.....whilst the perpetrator smiles and points.

I'm not here to defend CrzyHrs...he does a fine job without my help :)

Many of you posting on this subject (flaming) weren't there, but yet kick in two cents just to flame....pity.

I'll bet most moderators do very well.....and handle their position with class and dignity....also prolly bend a little and let most slide.
But also knowing what a postion of authority can lead to after 40 years in management.....I've seen people making ridiculous statements and moves why?  Just because they can.  I'm not saying this happened.....just that it could.  Hey, who
knows...maybe CrzHrs just shot the moderators butt off!  I dunno

I'ts a possiblity...maybe it's not....but the intelligent exchange of opinions on this BBS are sometimes ruined and made into babble by the flamers Why?  Because they can!  Something to think about :)

You need to read the terms of service agreement. HTC is not a public place - its private. They could cut you off in a second with no warning and no reason. You agreed to this when you downloaded the software and when you suscribed to the service. The world really doesn't need another "victim." Personaly, I want to puke when people yell oppression over trivial matters. And I think people who've lived through real oppression would want to also. Fathers, uncles, and brothers (and sisters) have died to insure one's oportunity to have a prosperous life, not to insure one's right to be stay stupid and obnoxious.

Hajo...Black Sheep...

I agree. The BBS should be a place where intelligent opinions can be posted and discussed. Now, if you would be so kind...point out how Crazy Horse's post can be construed as either.

In a previous thread (that HE created) he was told that "freedom of speech" does not apply to private enterprises. He was also told that posting his complaint in the BBS was counterproductive. Sorry, doesn't sound too intelligent to me.

BTW, he isn't stating an opinion in this thread. He is demanding action. The reality of the situation is that someone needs to grow up (besides the BBS flame mongers :D).

Ahhh... but when it is something that they don't agree with, then thats the signal to flame them, I see now.  I think its idiotic to flame on BBS PERIOD.  If you don't agree with what someone is saying, have a mature conversation about it.

The people that name call, or make personal attacks on a message board, need to really to lighten up.  Its childish to sit around and call eachother names on a BBS.;)

Hmm, I am about the biggest taunting, smack-talking, needling, channel 1 weasel out there and I have NEVER been muted. If you feel the need to taunt, rant, spew, do so in a creative manner. If you are creative, you can give someone, or an entire team for that matter,  the verbal smackdown without having to resort to profanity, racial slurs and harassment which are the offenses for which you will get muted.

The trend I notice most on channel 1 is a complete lack of ingenuity, creativity and originality. Put some thought into your rants and taunts and you will not only feel better, but add some entertainment for those on a long flight to bomb HQ's or alting a Jug to 20k ;) . If you are totally devoid of creativity and must resort to low-brow insults, slurs and profanity, do us all a favor and stfu before the moderators do it for you ;)

Hearing some one swear or seeing typed in text?

And If you play with speakers and you have kids in the room well use your imagination on that one.

In a perfect world we would act like adults and realise that indeed this is but a game and there people playing it that are better thatn you are and they will shoot you down LOL.

So poor old HTC is in a rock and a hard place on this one.

CrzHrs!

CrzHrs has gone to the big Main Arena in the sky, although I am sure he is having a good laugh knowing his words are still "stirring the pot" so to speak!

One thing I found out during the Memorial Flight for CrzHrs is that even though we are a large community of differing opinions, at heart we can put aside differences and come together.

As quite an accomplished Vulgarian myself, I can say that one thing that would curb the cursing is for the moderator to chide the offender (maybe with blue text) on the main channel for all to see, instead of the private message box.  It's one thing to privately warn players, but maybe a little public embarrassment would help the situation.

I don't think written cursing is quite as bad as violent discussions of race, religion or politics; however, a squadmate reminded me the other day that some folks might not have headsets or are using speakers for that "surround sound" flight sim experience, and it's entirely possible for their children to hear the vile euphemisms that are spoken on vox.

As far as the freedom of speech issue, the Supreme Court has held in case after case that the First Amendment only applies in a public context, NOT in private enterprise.  At my workplace (a large networking company- nay, THE large networking company) you can be handed your pink slip for even mentioning race, religion or politics.  As a native Texan, you KNOW this rubbed me the wrong way at first, but I understand it now.

(if you haven't guessed, I work for a place that makes routers and switches and rhymes with 'nabisco', LOL)

CrzHrs, Rest in Peace bro, and remember those angel wings can take all the G's you can throw at em!

It's not so much a moral issue but a practical issue on HTC's part. IF HTC could monitor and control vulgar language ... not to mention player harrassment and arguments on vox they probably would. Alas ...

  • They have no practical program to automatically censor voice programs as effectively as they do text messages. (Imagine getting a ten minute time-out for saying "shift.")
  • They can't have manual monitors on all of the vox channels or within range of everyone on range channel.
  • If players send in a film of such verbal abuse on vox, then HTC can take action. However the action, if deemed neccesary, would probably be in relation to the degree and type of offense involved and, quite frankly, some players sensibilities are more easily offended than others (even with the possibility of minors being within earshot).
That being the case, I've neither seen nor experienced HTC being overly aggressive in monitoring and censoring players. Sure, it happens, but such instances are easily avoidable and the company has provided the player community with ample warning and reasoning behind the neccesity to maintain a civil atmosphere in a game marketed to the general public (adults and minors alike).

I don't see it changing anytime soon. Of course, if it does, that's up to HT and co. anyhoo. If people get mad and leave because of having been given a text vulgarity warning by a curse-word bot, then it's really not an issue that needs addressing on HTC's part. Perhaps those people could use a break. Some counseling couldn't hurt.
