Title: Climbrate Question
Post by: frank3 on November 25, 2003, 12:23:06 PM
I always had this question in mind;

When climbing with 1000ft/min and at a speed of 150 mph, you get 1000ft higher in 1 minute, that's obvious.
But what if you were doing 250 mph, doesn't that get you 1000ft higher in less then 1 minute?
If this is true the climbrate meter wouldn't be correct would it?

VSI reading 1000 ft/min = 1000/ft/min, no matter what your ASI is reading.  They measure 2 different things.

VSI is the vertical line not the angle.
Redraw your diagram with 2 lines of the triange. One beeing speed the other vsi. Do it both for 150 and 250 and you will see the angle changes.

Btw, it was just a quick draw, didn't do any measurements to draw it
