Hi all,
I'd like to pick your brains for some suggestions on a code name for a project. I can't tell you anything about it since some of you know where I work, but that shouldn't be a big deal.
Basically, I'm looking for a code name that's a synonym or related to the concept of a 'Dark Horse', as in a 'dark horse candidate', someone who nobody thinks is going to win, but comes out from behind to victory.
BTW, for all you wags out there, I already floated the name 'Dark Horse'. The response I got was that it might be a little too on the nose.
Thanks!

The Four Horseman
If you don't choose that, the apocalypse will certainly rain down on us all.

But for a realistic suggestion:
The Poo Wrangler.
Who the hell thinks that would win?!

What about: "The Chairboy Project" ?
ahhh........ j/k
"France"

Shadow Rider
BTW where do you work?

Close to Grunherz: Shadow Warrior or Shadow Steed.
Ravs
-
'Project Seabiscuit' .... maybe a little sappy...
I think Chairboy works at the DOD or NSC, and we are naming the operation for covert military operations in either North Korea, Iran, or France.

Black Beauty - that was a Dark Horse too ya know ....

The Pale Rider - Good movie too :aok
-
Project Butt Jockey :rofl :rofl :aok

Project Long Shot.
-
How about "Project Thermopoly" - A reference to the battle at the mountain pass of Thermopoly where 300 Spartans held off 600,000 Persions. Obscure enough to not be "in your face" or obvious, but significant to those who care ...

"Project UNDER DOG":aok

Would "Operation John Elway" be too obvious?

Just call it "Black Helicopter" and dispense with the mystery already.

According to Marxist theory, all codenames or secret passwords always have to be "Swordfish".

Not to be a smart prettythang, I like your codename and the story of the battle of Thermopylae . If your idea is used, the spelling will be right on the baseball caps. :aok

Alright, you need a codename that is a longshot, that no one would expect to work at all...
Operation Iraqi Freedom

Call the project "Top Secret". Then when someone ask's you what project you are currently working on you can tell them it's "Top Secret" and then snicker because you're the only one that will get it.

Think laterally a surprise winner or new star would be an obvious loser until the moment it won. Anything with dark or shadow implies deviousness so can't be used.
So how about 'Project Obvious Nova' as in star nova, or 'Project Obvious Lightning' or with the horse theme and reverse psychology 'Project Bright Mustang' or 'Project Blue Charger' as in charging out of the blue. Or 'Blue Mustang' or variations thereof.
I once owned a share in a racehorse called Jigsaw Boy. He always came from nowhere to win on the line approprately enough. Jigsaw is apt as in puttig the pieces together so what about 'Project Jigsaw Victory' as in late surprise. OK OK that's pushing it a bit. But you get my drift.
Knowing more about the project than I do you might find something both apt and implying a dark horse.

Horses in Mythology: -
Arion - an immortal, extremely swift horse
Bucephalus - semi-legendary horse of Alexander the Great
Pegasus - a winged horse (already used by Rolls Royce for the harrier engine tho ;))
In Literature: -
Concorde - the mount of Sir Lancelot in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (not a real horse, but a page banging coconuts together) :rofl
Shadowfax - from The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
Silver Blaze - eponymous hero of a Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle
Maybe one of these takes your fancy?

project beatles

lol , okey dokey. I get a "D" in spelling, an "A+" in imagination. You also get an A+ in being a pain in my prettythang
:p
edit: Actually, that was a pretty cool way to point out the mispelling, and for a good reason. :) Thanks
