Title: LOTR: Two towers extended version...
Post by: GtoRA2 on November 26, 2003, 10:38:15 AM
I got this yesterday.

I watched the first disk so far. I just have to say, AWSOME so far, they added so much. There is Much more character development again, more then the fellowship extended version.

Anyone else pick this up?

I also picked up X2. Awesome movie. Much better then the first one.

Yes.

I was very disappointed with the cinema version. The Director's cut made up for it.

Yup, I was amazed that they cut out that back-history scene with Boromir/Farimir... it explained so much.

Are there still elves at Helms Deep? Does Farimir still drag Frodo to Gondor? I'm looking forward to seeing the new scenes, it's just too bad you can't cut and/or re-edit some of the old scenes.

He did unneccesarily butcher the story line in the second movie. Hard to understand why.

Absolutely. I certainly understand the need to edit and adapt for time requirements or clarity in the translation of the book to screen, but his changes were mainly just fiddling around and adding his own touch as far as I could tell.

For those of you planning on seeing the third LOTR movie at the theater her are some survival tips.
1. Stand up halfway through the movie and yell loudly, "Wait... where the hell is Harry Potter?"
2. Block the entrance to the theater while screaming: "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" - After the movie, say "Lucas could have done it better."
3. At some point during the movie, stand up and shout: "I must go! Middle Earth needs me!" and run and try to jump into the screen. After bouncing off, return quietly to your seat.
4. Play a drinking game where you have to take a sip every time someone says: "The Ring."
5. Point and laugh whenever someone dies.
6. Ask the nearest ring-nut if he thinks Gandalf went to Hogwarts
7. Finish off every one of Elrond's lines with "Mr. Anderson."
8. When Aragorn is crowned king, stand up and at the top of your lungs sing, "And I did it.... MY way...!"
9. At the end, complain that Gollum was offensive to Ethiopians
10. Talk like Gollum all through the movie. At the end, bite off someone's finger and fall down the stairs.
11. When Shelob appears, pinch the guy in front of you on the back of the neck.
12. Dress up as old ladies and reenact "The Battle of Helms Deep" Monty Python style.
13. When Denethor lights the fire, shout "Barbecue!"
14. Ask people around you who they think is the next "Terminator" sent from the Middle Earth of the future to assassinate Frodo Baggins
15. In TTT when the Ents decide to march to war, stand up and shout "RUN FOREST, RUN!"
16. Every time someone kills an Orc, yell: "That's what I'm Tolkien about!" See how long it takes before you get kicked out of the theatre.
17. During a wide shot of a battle, inquire, "Where's Waldo?"
18. Talk loudly about how you heard that there is a single frame of a nude Elf hidden somewhere in the movie.
19. Start an Orc sing-a-long.
20. Come to the premiere dressed as Frankenfurter and wander around looking terribly confused.

Hhmmm none of what you guys are talking about means much to me. I have not read the books. I have tried and tried, but they just bore me to death, Tolkien spends so much time describing every small detail, lol it just puts me to sleep.

I am not saying they are bad, but I really like the theatracal version as well, prolly cause I have not read the books.

I bought the extended version on Saturday...  I thought the additional scenes added alot to the movie.  Though... I'd recommend watching the extended version of "Fellowship of the Ring" first since many of the additional scenes in "The Two Towers" were built from added scenes in the first movie.

I just got X-Men 2 last night... I'll watch it tonight.  One of the few movies where "2" was better than "1".

I also bought "Quest for Fire" for $8.  Rae Dawn Chong when she was younger... nummy.

P.S. Recent addtions to the Collection (http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mycollection.asp?alias=MrHanky) DOH! will have to upload the recent additions tonight

Ah... don't ask how many... It will only make funkypants hop in hoping to see a pee-pee measuring contest.  He carries a tape measure around with him just in case such a pleasurable occassion arrises.

No I didn't.  Sorry that I didn't put a "cut and paste" disclaimer on it.  I saw it on bash.org today.  :D

BTW GTO, if you don't have DvD profiler ( http://www.dvdprofiler.com ), you should get it.  It's a very handy utility for tracking your DvD collection and allows you to post the list on-line.

The extended versions of fellowship and Tow towers are great........................ anyone seen the "easter egg" in the extended version of fellowship?
go to the chapter index,  go to the last chapter, push down as if there is another chapter, a ring will appear.  I won't give it away but it has Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Geller.

I don't think it was Peter Jackson that butchered it, but studio execs who thought it would be too long of a movie.  I wish they would release the normal version and the extended version in theaters and see which one brings a bigger draw.

THe extended version is tops....also I think the director/writers commentary should be mandatory, it also might help those who still can't get their head around the plot changes....I did say might...
