...I'm cookin' my first bird today.  Big ol' 20 pounder for my family.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Make sure you keep it moist... cover it up and make sure you baste it now and again. Best bet is to marinate it the day before hand with a thin mix of french dressing or beer and brandy :)

Good luck :)

those oven bags are the way to go.  your turkey is always moist (this year will be my 19th thanksgiving turkey, not a dry one in the bunch), and all the drippings and broth stay in the bag living the fixings for a lot of gravey.

usually I make the bird and the gravey and my wife makes the rest of the meal (great deal for me, I get a couple high profile tasks that I can wrap up fairly easy, and she gets almost 2 days in the kitchen.)

Been basting like a madman.  Turkey is almost ready, I've had the cover off for the last hour to let the skin brown.  The parents are gonna how me how to use the drippings to do gravy.  mmm, gravy.

Have fun all!

Big party here. Two 20 punders, and my mom is cooking a goat! I had never heard of goat on thanksgiving, but whatever.

Did you "christen" the goat before she started cooking?  That's how we do it in the hills.  :D

would the fact that I had to work out of town the last 3 times we moved, help or hurt that opinion?  yep, just leave for work, come back a couple weeks later to a new house.

The bird was fricken great!  My mom brought stuffing made with sausage and that kicked butt too (not to mention the green bean casserole)!

I'm sleepy.

Thats what we did.

3 gallons of peanut oil, a propane burner, and 40 minutes later.....the bird was done.
