Title: How many ex-WBers do we have here?
Post by: beet1e on December 06, 2001, 03:22:00 AM
I’ve just started in Aces High, and I’m bumping into former WB players all over the place. I’m interested to know the IDs of all the former WB subscribers, and why they came to Aces High.

I will start the ball rolling. I was in WB for almost four years. It was great for the first 15 months, until version 2.6 and then the problems started  :( I carried on for another two years, but got frustrated waiting for WB3. When it finally arrived, it was incomplete, difficult to download and configure, and needed an expensive upgrade. I have other reasons for leaving WB, but I don’t want to flame here.

I'm flying both games. So I haven't left WB. But I find both games fun in their way.

mrsidl -> Wb 2.7x

I quit wb when they neutered the ACA - it was easymode but it was cheap and we had fun there.. I was waiting for WBIII to subscribe finally but the day seemed endlessly far.

Then I heard about Aces High, tried it and loved it immediately even though I got slaughtered on my 2 free weeks.

I stayed in H2H for a year or so to learn the ropes  ;)

Ok, I didn't have the money/time to subscribe  :)

This thread ran a few weeks ago:

"Ex Warbirders, Lets see a show of hands" (http://www.hitechcreations.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=012541)

I think it was before you made your first appearance here on the board scrmble.

Count me, daddog, teeerex, vaderr, and a bunch of other mongrels in.

We moved over to AH shortly after it went pay for play a year & a half ago. Was rocky times at first but it has paid off I believe.

While I though warbirds was good AH blows it's socks off in customer service, speed of upgrades/features.

Scrmbl. Sorry to see ya leave WB, though I won't miss you cussing me out.  :)

The same things you slam on WB for can also be said about AH when it first arrived...

Quote
it [WBIII] was incomplete, difficult to download and configure, and needed an expensive upgrade

When AH was first introduced, it was incomplete, too. And I could not run AH on my old computer (and didn't want to spend money on an expensive upgrade at the time), but I sure could run WB 2.77 just fine and did so until last August before I upgraded the old 200 MHz Pentium Pro.

I had very little problems getting WBIII up and running on my new computer and any problems I did have were the result of my failures (i.e. not all the MB drivers were loaded hehe)

A 90 meg file is not difficult to download, it may take a long time if you are a modem-boy like me, but there is no extra labor involved for you. Just start the download at night and in the morning you are set.  :) Not sure why you had problems downloading. ???

Anyway, there is really no purpose for you to announce your reasons for leaving WB. That is begging to start flames. Why not just say "Hi, I'm here from WB and hope I enjoy this sim, any other ex-WBers here?"

Hope you have fun here at AH. Good luck! <S>

flew W/B's from Feb.98..  When the Mongrels moved here, I came along,  Haven't looked back since..

While I was at W/B's, I read the Book "Warbirds, The Story so Far". By Proghet, DocDoom, Krod & Burbank.  It gives the History starting from CK to W/B's.  When the Grapevine Texas group refused to swallow an ultimatum, they fought back by what they do best.  They Created Aces High.  ;)

When the Best that came from the best created the Best, Alway go with the Best.    ...Te...

Scrmbl read the thread that DejaVu posted a link to.  There are a lot of us here.  I still fly WB sometimes, and I think I see more old WBers (guys I flew with when I started in '96) in AH than in WB.

What wolfgang said about what ghosth said about the quality of software and service.

Funked – thanks. I have been directed to that thread and have now read it.

Kekule. The purpose of a bulletin board is discussion within laid down parameters. I believe my initial post is within those parameters.  As this is an Aces High bulletin board, and not a Warbirds bulletin board, I feel free to say why I came to Aces High, which was because I was not happy with the direction in which my previous sim was going. I chose to expound upon this by giving further details, including the name of that sim. I get slightly annoyed by the proponents of one sim visiting the bulletin board of another, with a censorial attitude about what takes place therein. I feel that my reasons for leaving WB were valid, and I have more than a passing interest in whether my views are shared my any other members of the AH populace. The fact that I commented upon the difficulties I encountered downloading, and then configuring WB3 does not constitute a flame. But if you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

BTW, the downloading difficulty was caused by my ISP time limit of 2 hours being reached before the download could complete. Revvin kindly introduced me to “Download Agents”, which can resume an incomplete download at the point it was interrupted. NB – iEN did nothing to help me when I posted in AGW.  Conversely, when I had a problem with the Aces High HELP application, I had a prompt response from Hitech himself. (app was looking for hh.exe file in the wrong location)  And as to my feelings about that, refer to the first line of this post  :)

Unfortunately Scrmbl it seems to be a fact of life that some people take a game/sim and turn it into some kind of religion hence why they 'crusade' from bulletin board to bulletin board in the way you describe.

I'm glad you are enjoying Aces High and I'm glad I could help you with your download problems and maybe helped 'ease' you into Aces High. Enjoy yourself mate as you are the only one who can choose the right sim for you

Fly both WB (2.77 and WBIII) and AH.  Although I think I'll have to give up AH soon...real life is making it difficult to put enough time into sims and since I play WB more than AH and since my squad's in WB...well, you get the picture.

zarkov in AH.
-flash in WB2.77 and WBIII.

Hi Mates

I fly WBIII, 2.77, and AH.  Have been in WB since 1998 and in AH since it's inception.

A lot of my old squad mates are over in AH so I am spending more and more time here. As an old buff driver, I enjoy the bombers, but also like the PT boats and ground ack.

As a buff driver, I have had more and more trouble in WBIII as there are still many bugs in the bombers that they just are not looking at.  Would like to see the B25 and perhaps the B24 in AH.  Also some dive bombers, maybe Stuka and Dauntless.

As an old retired Army airplane driver, I have a little more time to fly than most folks, so I even allocate some time to WWIIOnline.  However, in my opinion the flying there just plain stinks.

I am the leader of 617RAF Dambusters in WB and am in 249RAF in AH.  Both real fine outfits.

Hope to see you all in AH.  Check six.
