Hi all. I just signed up. I've been flying other planes around for years in other sims. Hellcats (on Mac), Warbirds (Mac), then I got a PC and now I'm practicing this wonderful game.
I'm used to the Hellcat F6F from the previous programs, so I practice in it. AcesHigh is certainly more realistic, and much harder. I've been practicing landing on the carrier. I've managed 3 or 4 times to get it right, but most of the time I cartwheel forward whan I hit the deck, my hook doesn't seem to grab. I've tried all kinds of techniques, but I can't seem to get the formula right, apart from the couple of successes. I never fail in Warbirds.
Anything I should know? It's like my wheels get tripped up in the cables...
Bythe way, I'm really a guitarist. I wrote a book called PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book. Check it out at http://planetalk.thatllteachyou.com if you're interested. Finally my username makes sense in a discussion forum! I've been using it for years in guitar forums.
Cheers form Tamborine Mountain, Australia.

here is what i do.
bleed e heading in to the flat top (i generally go zero throttle) doing reverse rudder flat turns (slightly nose up) or reverse rudder rolls (or both) until i'm @200 kias.
Full Flaps down, and then i use the i key (default keyboard down trim button) to bring the nose down. then i drop gear / tailhook
My goal is to be going @120kias ish as i line up my plane with the carrier, make sure i'm just a wee bit higher than deck, and i hit X for auto level. usually i give it a wee bit of throttle here to keep myself from stalling out, and once over the carrier, turn off auto level, and let my nose slowly drop. (generally i start droping after i have passed the 1st rope. that sucker has flung me back out to sea 2 many times)
but the key here is full flaps, and down trim. i don't really need to use my tail hook to land cv's anymore. the flaps allow you to SLOW your plane down and stay in the air. HUGE diff. btween landing a CV at 150kias and 110kias.
the auto level i have just recently started using. I think i'm just getting lazy.
OH btw, when you take off from a cv and it's turning, use rudder to keep your plane in the middle of the deck. don't jump on ch2 and scream "quit turning the cv"
