Title: AH2 online and no one home?
Post by: mrblack on December 04, 2003, 05:18:04 PM
Funny how we where are screaming for AH2(myself the loudest).
Well guess what boys and girls It Is here at least in beta form online.
But the sad part Is there is hardly more than 10 people there at any one time.

So what happend to all the people crying for AH2?
You do know that It IS highly playable In It's current form.
And you can shoot each other down and every thing.

The flight model Is great and a blast to fly.
Ht Pops In from time to time and I'm sure He feels real good to just see 10 people in there!

Come on help out with the beta people and you know something you might just have a good time.

Oh and all you that will say My computer won't play it .
And all that stuff.

Well It might just be time to upgrade

So flame away as I'm sure I have ticked some of you off.
But you know what I really don't care!
I just think It was silly that there is so little participation In the online beta.
There my 2 cents.

DUDe it's easy to take off in the spit.
Here's how.
Start off with NO throttle and In auto take off.
Slowly give it gas to about 1/8 throttle let it roll abit.
then go 1/4 let it roll.
then go alittle more gas at this point you will see the wiggling is slowing down.
Slowly increase the throttle till full and there you are.
nothing to it.

happy flying.

Take a look in the Tour of Duty forum if your having troubles taking off.  I've posted a tutorial from a website I found about how to take of in a Spitfire.  Just seems odd that the characteristics are the exact opposite of how they should be according to the pilots testimony.

An added touch of realism - fact is with all these high powered single engine planes, you cannot jam the throttle to full from a dead stop in the real world. Torque simply would flip you over.

The problems with the Spit (and c47) take off/landing has been fixed.  The fix will be in the next beta release.  It was actually an (my) art bug :o, not a flight model bug.
By the way, those of you that are having lock ups and low fps need to make sure you list your system specs and issues in the AH2 Open Beta Bug Reports Forum (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=195).  Also make sure you have the latest drivers for all your hardware.
We can't fix bugs that we don't know about, so heed the call!  In this way, by giving a little something back to the AH community, we can move on to greater heights. :aok

"its playable in it's current form"
 OK-
Tonite I'll download it on my P3 933, Geforce MX420, SBlive, win98 system & see what we get. I catch mid-high 60s FPS in "classic MA".

I havent DL TOD yet because I have limited flight time & not willing to use it until the game is playable. But someone said its "playable", Guess I'll check it out & report what I find.

More to come-

played it for several hours last night, quite playable just a little rough as a beta should be.

the flight model improvements alone are worth it. i dont wanna fly ah1 now.

Latest drivers recommended here, old set of drivers (3082) recommended by Skuzzy in another thread for GF3 users. How about a small list of most popular hardware and the recommended drivers (best for AH2) for each O.S.?
Title: AH2 online and no one home?
Post by: Skuzzy on December 06, 2003, 09:20:41 AM
Latest drivers for the type of hardware is probably more appropriate.

We recommend the 30.82 or 41.09 NVidia drivers for GF3 (or any MX card) and earlier cards as those are the last drivers NVidia optimized for that class of hardware.  Later drivers have issues with those earlier cards, or simply do not render some things, among other problems.
The 45.xx drivers and later are optimized for the FX cards, which have a very different architecture.  The 5x.xx drivers do some rather strange things to the DX registry which preclude changing your video card without reinstalling DX.

maybe its because people dont like it?

I for one hate:
the "new" clip board
the new flight model

and in away, why wouldl you want to play somewhere that doesnt have all the planes, when MA of AHI has everything you need...?

"You gonna pay for my upgrade hotshot?"

 Yeah!!  ;)

And are they going to compensate for testingin some small way? I imagine if AH2 was truly "open" beta, like the first time round,  they'd have many more people in there if it was fully "open."  As it's still only accessible to paying subscribers I imagine they have all they need.

But ultimately my eagerness to test pretty much matches the level of community interaction and updates on the "upcoming product" that came from HTC over the past year and a half.

Geez, where have I heard something similar before and why does it sound so familiar coming from Westy? :)
/cheapshotmode = OFF

Seriously, ya'll might be surprised about the upgrade thing. I'm actually in there flying the online beta arena on my old AW3 box (P3 550 o/clocked to 682) that I added a Radeon 8500 video card to.

Of course, it bogs down if I turn the eye candy all the way up, but with some of that cut back a little it dogfights just fine, very smooth. I really think that anyone with at least a gigahertz of processor speed and a little bit newer video chipset should be OK.

I go in there once a day and take a few hops. Don't be bashful stabbing the rudders when she starts to drift on a takeoff roll. A hard stab on the rudder will work quite well. Stab left and right as the need arises. Slow input will get you out of hand.

Shaping up really well. WT what system are you running. I'm running 1.2 AMD with a 64meg GeForce and I'm getting mid thirties..

Very good beta so far. Give it a shot.

Bah.  Barely a "ping"

Remember. What you  see on your front end does not necessarily reflect what actually occured.

"Westy hunts. Those were the days "

And the score on that, as I recall oh master 110 pile-it, was Westy 1, KewlAro 0

1.1 Ghz, 128 MB ram, GeForce 2 ;)   I get high 30's in AH... BTW i tried AH 2,  and back then i had 0-2 FPS,  high teens with every graphic detail off.

WT buy a few hunks of Ram. 128 is nuthin. Bring it up to 512 if you can, or better. I'm at my limit at 512.

Download the latest version. Early on I was in the low teens. Now is MUCH better. Anything above the mid twenties is icing on the cake.

For those complaining about AH2's gameplay ect. ect.

1;  It's Beta of course it has problems

2; If take off is a problem God Forbid you use auto take off, I know it would hurt how everyone looks at you as a pilot and you wouldn't be a manly man.

3; FM isn't that bad yeah its not perfect yet and yes you may get shot down (god forbid that as swell) I don't think the precious scores really matters yet.

4; Video problems, well cant help you there

5; The HTC Staff occaisionally ask members to provide certain statistics brought on a certain way, as in information if your computer is set as such and such  what does it do.  They ask for specifics and certain configurations for a reason I would gather, why not provide them with what they actually ask for instead of making them filter through every other setup then what they are actually curious about.

6; Bugs, Bugs, Bugs if you want it fixed and improved they have to be reported, actual bugs that is not how YOU would personally like the game to be written.

7; I agree with MrBlack been seeing for months everyone hummin about where and when is AH2, Well it's here and yes it is not completed you may not be able to up your favorite plane and land 20 kill sorties ect. ect.  but the fact is its here and the faster people help out the faster it will be done.

In conclusion, If HT could spit out a finished game that easy i'm sure we would call him GOD, but seeing as he is only second to that along with his staff at the last supper table i'm sure they would be able to deliver a finished product alot easier with as much (Legitimate and What is Actually Asked For) Information as we the AH community could provide.

OK Flame Away, Give Excuses, Personally Attack, Turn it into a Furball vs. Strat Thread or whatever you care to do following this post.

Can't wait to see the finished product myself, hopefully those few who do provide the requested info are enough help to the HTC Staff to make Everyones Gameplay Better

How can people be dissapointd.  its only in stage 7 of probably 100.  Its not the beta version that we are craving for, its the new format of gameplay, which hasnt even been hinted at yet in AH2.
