Just out of curiosity, whose got their ear to the ground. Whats the word on the next big thing? Anything in the works?
-
AW is dead, FA III is where "l33t f1g4t3rplane sn1p3r5" play an aircombat arcade "game", WBIII doesn't know what it wants to be and isn't very good at any one thing that it can do, flying in WWIIO is pure tragic-comedy and Target-Whatever is nice IF you have a Cray supercomputer to run it's mediocre graphics on.
So IMO for right now and in near future MMPOG AH-II is the only thing in the works that holds any "promise" and even those "promises" have been imagined and created up by those trying to keep tabs on. There's not been much from HTC to base any concrete speculation or solid hope on.
IMO at this point if Oleg announced IL2 was going MMP I think you'd see some real excitement and people eager to beta test.

Yup, I think so, too.
IMO, HTC is shooting itself in the foot with its policy of abandoning the community and leaving only Skuzzy as hall monitor.
I wish for the return of the days when the principals flew and fought, engaged others on their BBS and dropped in occasionally on the game to virtually shake hands with their customer base.
We are nothing more to them now than a revenue stream and testing dolts. Sad.

The world needs another MMOL flight sim like I need to gain 50 more pounds.
-
I agree Horn. And that last observation in your post was why it was so easy for me to hit the "delete account" button.
But hey... Tis the season to get sentimental and for remembering by gone days.
Speaking of. I wish someone would chime in and call me a "disrupter" just for old times sake ;)

It is so easy to sit back and view things negatively. Horn, you and Westy made the choice to see things in a negative light. That is your choice and you are entitled to your opinion, but I can say with certainty that it is also incorrect.
I would hope that other reading those views take it with a grain of salt, as there is simply no truth in those claims. Sure, anyone can twist things around to fit a viewpoint, but it does not make the viewpoint right.
-
Would be interesting for a small company to persue the MMOL rights to the Il2 content and or what of the code engines they can use. The market is not big enougth to justify the effort to recreate all that content when it allready exists. As detail levels increase the time to create increases. So small companies end up spending a whole year to develop one model that allready exists.
The market is also not big enough to worrry too much about the big guys putting the effort into entering it.

Oh get over it already. If you're too stupid to know that the 'dolts' he talked about were the people with unrealistic expectations for an open beta, then you deserve that label.
Every time you gripe about HT's post, you just reinforce the suspicion that YOU are exactly the type of person he was talking to.
Grow up and clean up that spilt milk. You'll get no sympathy here.
-
I think that the disparity in viewpoint or opinion is due to you're being on the inside and being privy to what's going on. And I would categorize my view as pessimistic and not necessarily negative.
So is it fair to say we're twisting things around when there's not much tossed out to the player base to even twist? Or is it more a case of perceptions developing due to the void caused from a lack of interaction (beyond policing of the boards) by the folks at HTC for so long?
Thanks for replying but IMnshO HTC just might get more bang for the buck by posting a small, two paragraph sized development update (a frequent one would be even better) rather than just jumping in to say don't listen to these two bozo's.
All IMO of course.
And enough from me. I don't want to appear to be argumentative or "bashing"

I sure wish HTC would coddle me and whisper sweet nothings in my ear too.
-
Nah, Westy's got a point.
A little blurb here and there would certainly rev the excitement level a bit. Sure, we'd over react to it, read it differently and all sorts of stupidity...but a development update or a screen shot here and there would really be neat.
Throw us a bone here and there. Its been a long ride, we're anxious to see what's brewing in HTC World HQ :)
The beta has been great, how's about a few blurbs what's being refined, etc?
Flame at will.

Keep going - this may end up to be my first unintentional troll.

Aces High is analogous to the B17 in 1945. Outdated, mediocre performance, but reliable.
Aces High II is like the B29. Neat when it works, but still working the bugs out. Not really ready for combat yet.
However I'm pretty sure someone out there is working on an AR234.
-
It seems obvious to me thet HT is burned out. No other way to explain it after DL'ing the 37 meg beta AH2. I think the last time I saw Pyro online was back in 91. Who is NATEDOG again?
I cant beleive that a full crew of 6 is working 40 hr weeks. I could see one full time and two part timers though.
Skuzzy, thats how it looks to me. It might not be accurate, probably isnt, but thats not my problem.

So you believe this opinion to be incorrect and negative?
I wish for the return of the days when the principals flew and fought, engaged others on their BBS and dropped in occasionally on the game to virtually shake hands with their customer base.
If they are still doing this, then I apologize--I must be playing at the wrong time--it has been, at the very least, months since I've seen this happen. I'll bet 8 out of ten newb's think you are the creator of the game as you are the only "blue" face in the game they've ever seen.
As to the revenue stream thing, what is one to think when the devs cease to communicate w/ the player base?
Westy : You disruptor! How dare you? :D Stick your head in BW sometime, willya?
Chairdweeb: Do try and get a grip.

If you showed a painting to 10 different people, you would probably get 10 different opinions on the work. All due to the different perspectives people chose to view things from.
If you asked those 10 people what could be done to make the painting better, you probably would get 10 different answers, all from varying perspectives.
What makes one thing better to one person makes it worse for another.
Show a partially completed painting to those 10 people and some would say, "Nice when it will be done", others might say, "It's crap and it will always be crap", while others muse, "When are we going to find out more about it?" Perspectives are interesting.

the world according to Skuzzy ... :D
this musta came from page 2021 .. paragraph 3
-
But Skuzzy...
You didnt see the beginning of this painting....
-
Sure I did Maniac. I was the ISP for HTC when they went online a few years back.
-
Thats what im saying Skuzz, you were there ISP...
-
See what happens when you view things from a different perspective than what may have been intended. :D
Thanks Maniac.
-
:aok
EDIT : If anyone non HTC posted what Skuzz posted here he would instantly be labled a liberal LOL!

Well that clears things right up. Thanks.

Skuzzy this brings up an interestign question - some of the guys in this thread and in the AHII forums have mentioned.
I havent been to any of the cons, so I dunno, but is HTC actively trying to keep download size to a minimum? Id think that would severely limit your ability to 'let the creative juices flow' so to speak.
I wonder what AH could be at ten times the current size. Graphical content, sound, all sorts of goodies.

Just what we need. Something rare, and difficult to use without specialized training and equipment. Sounds like fun.
-
Why would download size matter? I've downloaded the demos you guys have linked in past threads...some 50mb, some 100, some more. And if its too big to download, buy on CD...or grab it from someone who has high speed access and burn to CD, etc
I'd really like to think the game isnt being limited because you dont want to cross a 40mb download size and such.
There arent many games I've played that are very small. Americas Army was fairly large, etc
Just my 2 cents.
-
Come on fellas, download size? i get 8mbit for 64$ a month....
Welcome to the future...
-
There is a real cost, for HTC, associated with the size of the installer. I like to think it actually makes us a bit more creative to find ways to get the things done and maintain the small footprint.
Nothing is without its challenges.
Horn, should I assume that you were being sarcastic? If so, all I am saying is that anyone can pick a perspective to see things from which would allow a negative or pessimistic observation to be made.
Maniac, business prices for a T1 (1.45Mb) have just dropped under $1,000/month U.S. here. What kind of garauntee do you have for your service as it pertains to uptime? Business class telco services (in Texas anyways) are bound by law to be up within 24hours of notification of a failure.
-
CC that Skuzz,
That cost WILL change shortly. FOR SHURE!
Belive me, i cut the costs of my company with 2/3 and upped the performance 9 times this last year... and this is 23 offices connected togheter...
You should be preparing for the future.... Dload size wont matter much if your country puts the resources/investments in the right places...
-
Actually Maniac, the costs are going up here in the U.S. The phone companies now control the Internet, for the most part. And they are asking for higher rates.
Then on the consumer side, they are asking to be able to raise rates on the Internet connections.
The network in the U.S. is not going to be updated anytime soon. It won't be long before the rest of the world is running much faster networks than will be available to consumers in the U.S.
-
I fully undestand your uptime issue skuzz, belive me, i may seem like a retard at times but i certainly am not.
If you want to mirror the dloads, im sure we can make an arrangment,
Djust keep the gaming servers on T1īs with guaranteed uptimes and outsource the downoald parts.... after all the internet is international
;)
-
We migrated the game servers from a T1 a long time ago. Takes a lot more than a T1 for them. The downloads are also sitting on some very high bandwidth as well.
Those big pipes (a couple of OC3'S) and the gauranteed uptimes are bloody expensive, but absolutely neccessary.
-
The downloads are also sitting on some very high bandwidth as well.
Let me take that burden of your shoulders then...
I only mentioned T1īs because you did...
