I've only been flying for a few months now, but I see a lot of talk both in the MA and on the boards about 'winning".
How do others define winning?
Now I need to clarify that I'm much more of a furballer then anything else, as that goes back to my AW days. It always seemed a waste of time to go home while I still had bullets and since I wasn't really dying, if I got clobbered, so what. Combined with my lack of ability, that was usually the case.
That being said, my idea of 'winning' is having good flights/fights with a good wingman. Working with someone else, to keep each other clear and taking down as many as possible before I get chopped is the most fun. That's what I look forward to when I sign on and if I find that during that particular evening, I've won.
Personally I don't get the 'win the reset' bit as from what I've seen, it's always a numbers game.
When folks start complaining that we're not working as a 'team', I don't get it. Once again that seems to be someone really complaining that I'm not playing the game thier way.
My idea of team, is that if you are in trouble, I'm coming in to try and help, even if it's 10 guys chasing one of ours and I'll probably get clobbered anyway. The effort to clear that guy is team. I see that happen all the time when I fly, so I figure I must have pretty good people on my 'team'.
Anyway, I'm just curious as to how others define winning in AH

When everyone's swearing at you, you're winning.
-
winning means killing the red guy... nothing else matters.

Winning mean having fun with squadmates.
-
when your on his tail, thats winning
when he's on your tail, your loseing

i thought having a #1 rank is winning or is that whining?
i forget sometimes.
-
finishing all my beer before passing out is marked as a win! :)
-
I consider winning in here is when I manage to beat Silat or any other Nomad to the sheep pens.

Being ranked #1 just means you smell the worst.

The only winning move is not to play.

defeating every attempt the enemy makes against you, without exception.
-
Surviving, and comming out on top when you should have died.
-
Having fun playing the way you want to is winning in my book :D
Being called at cheater is winning too :D :rofl

What Murdr said. When you land a few kills in a shot-up plane after turning with Spits, 38s, etc... who had the advantage, that and just plain having fun with your squaddies. That's winning. ;)
-
As has been said before, having fun is winning.
Even more important is pissing someone off. That is the true definition of an prettythangkicking.
-
Winning in AH to me is the same as it is in any armed conflict. It can be applied to an individual, an entire squadron, or your entire country...Winning IS....
To inflict the maximum amount of casualties upon the adversary while minimizing, as much as possible, the damage to oneself, squadron, and country.
In short, to kick arse without getting your arse kicked.
-
Finding a good fight.
-
it used to be coming home shot up, holding kills from a battle you should have died in.
Now I have to agree with Karnac, Just finding a good battle is a huge victory.

to win is when i kill the guy in the red or fullfill my mission objective

Airmanship:
Teamwork, camaraderie and helping your fellow teammate out; Directing a land battle from the air as a forward observer; Landing with 1 feathered, leaking, missing pieces and no ammo - but with numerous kills knowing you made an impact on someone.

To me it is online flight sim. I have nothing to win or lose.
Having fun everytime I press the "E" key is what matters. If Im not having fun, I quit for the night and do someting else.
My life is too simple to worry about "losing" or "winning" in a virtual flight sim.
-
winning is logging on and seeing it is festers map..
winning is logging on one of the lousy maps like pizza and finding a fair sized furball near a cv and having it last 20 min or so.

Landing a fighter sweep with your squad with 10+ combined kills and no losses.
-
winning can be related to strategy, so I think I'm winning if my side is conquering fields, winning can be a good fight with a wingman, winning can be a good furball, winning can be a long flight in a mission; no doubt winning is when I log off and I've had a good time, but to me all I said cant be a win if I don't LAND my plane home safely.
-
to each his own, but some of these definitions are pretty whack.
-
I win each time I get my plane back home...just like the pilots in any air conflict must do.

Winning is " losing less than 50% of the time"
-
the only real wining i see is a map reset.....
But then i do love shooting down planes in my Lancaster while my bombs fall on HQ's :D
-
winning is getting personal enjoyment from the game....
losing is being a sourpuss and annoying people cos your not doing well..:aok

For me, "winning" is the ability to get a positive K/D ratio in a 2nd or 3rd tier plane without resorting to vulching, ganging, or if in a GV, spawn camping. Being able to hold of an enemy advance, or to take a base and push back the front, is a different win. So I guess I play two games - positive K/D in a 2nd tier plane, and sacrifice K/D to get a base.
-
to me, winning means landing.
The more kills I have when I land, the bigger the win.
fun is another matter altogether, and the quest for fun will usually sacrifice my quest for winning.
-
Wining for me is waking up and realizing that my heart still works...outside of that, everything else is kinda silly.

Yeah, after the brain went in '95 you haven't had too much to worry about :p

Winning is hearing Lazs complain that despite how ineffective he's made my bombers, I'm still ruining his fun.

Hey!!! Get your facts straight man....it was 89...I think...maybe 98...what were you saying???
:)
-
I win everytime I see a red guy explode or lose to many pieces parts in front of my Hispanos :D
-
Winning is diving into that well organized enemy raid while listening to your squadmates as they call you dead or crazy, only to come out with two kills on one pass and just a little lost paint.
Haven't been online durning a map reset in over two months. Does it happen anymore?

That's a common misunderstanding that the furballers often make. Teamwork for me is what you said later on in your post: Helping your friends, and communicating. As Colonel F. Gabreski once said, "a lone fighter is a sitting duck". So it makes no sense NOT to save your friends or help with 6-calls etc. because all your friends will die and then YOU will become that sitting duck. But some guys are so consumed with massaging their own egos that they just can't be arsed. When I see a lack of 6-calls, no responses to voxx comms, no communication of any kind, no help to get a bogie off mine or anyone else's 6, I don't whine about it on the BBS, as these whines fall on stony ground. I simply land at the earliest opportunity, and move to another part of the map. Or, in really bad cases, log off.

Winning = Having fun.
If Im not having any fun, I dont much care what else happens.

Heres another definition:
To crush your enemies, to see him driven before you, to fly his aircraft and to take his sheep for your own.
(I must thank Ghengis Kahn for the inspiration)
-
Winning to me is to have a long good fight, regardless of the outcome.
communities where someone knows who I am , and cares about me, and at a later stage meet virtual friends in real life.
To have friends make you rich regardless what your paycheck is.

Winning is when you upset an opponent so badly that he becomes fixated on killing you to the point that he forgets to fly with his head, and starts to fly with his feelings...
... and he dies anyway.
