Howdy,
I recently had an opportunity to get some stick time in a T-6 from North American Top Gun. Yes, the real deal. I now know what it feels like to pull a 4G+ manuever, !
The first thing I noticed was that for take off you are supposed to LOCK THE TAIL WHEEL! How come none of the Aces High airplanes, even in the current version, have lockable tail wheels? Sure does seem like a nifty solution to a lot of those take off issues people complain so much about. And, its a realistic solution too.
-
Well for starters not all aircraft have a locking tail wheel. The Spitfire doesn't have one and I'm sure if you do some research you'll find that many of the others don't either.
-
While it is true the spit didn't have a lockable tail wheel, after some research it seems to be way over modeled. All accounts found say the spit was not prone to swerves or ground loops. Which I still find amazing considering the narrow gear positioning.

Yeah, I agree the spit does seem a little too sensitive.
As for not ground looping etc. - I recall hearing about pilots having issues with the tight gear and that it could ground loop, if the pilot was not careful.
