Here is the list of taxes implemented by Labour since 1997.
Which has affected you the worst? No. 29 was the one which effectively destroyed my livelihood as a self employed IT consultant (oh all right then - Contractor :p). But looking at this list of new taxes, many seem to have been designed to harm businesses, and designed to make our lives more difficult. And what do we have to show for these new taxes? Bugger all, is the answer you were looking for.
The Yanks have it. And much though it pains me to agree with Lazs et al, I have NEVER known higher taxation to be the answer to economic problems. It never works. It is better to allow people freedom of choice to decide how their money is spent. Just look at Labour's attempts to run hospitals from Whitehall instead of allowing the health service to be run by people who know about hospitals - doctors and matrons.
Look at No. 23 - "additional diesel duties". Diesel road fuel in Britain is even more expensive than petrol, and is probably the most expensive in the world. Most countries price diesel lower than petrol/gasoline to reflect its lower production costs. But not Britain. The British Road Hauliers are finding it difficult to compete with foreign hauliers who come into Britain having refuelled on the continent. So we had the fuel tax revolt in 2000. What is to be gained by implementing taxes which literally jeopardise people's livelihoods???
Final question: Does anyone feel any better off as a result of any of these taxes? Please indicate which tax has helped you to benefit, and explain how.

Quick Dowding, change the subject! Damn ur fast....

My point is that we're caught between a rock and hard place, you dolt.
-
Perhaps we should send our army to liberate the UK as well? ;)

problem is... the women in your country are allowed to vote.. when you let women and young people vote their insecurity and shortsightedness allways shows through.. they feel they have nothing so want government to be their daddy... they don't realize that they won't allways have nothing and that they are voting to kill their future... my guess is that dowding is either a woman, very young or just starting out n his/her career... or... all three.
beetle... also.. big government is terrible no matter what even if it is "your" big government this term. It will get you when "they" have the reigns.

Liberate away Grünherz
Who needs those steenkin' socialist island dwellers anyway?
Oh wait; the Yanks need an ally
Sorry, couldn't resist, my European friend, who's now residing in the US. :)
And Dowding is right - a rock and a hard place...two party systems suck.

Its the high English taxes that help create this great country via a revolution... ironic isn't it?
-
The solution is to end womens sufferage... also.. people who do not own land should not be able to vote.

Basically lazs is a feudalist with a perchant for dressing up in medieval clothes and having people call him 'Henry'.

Really? I was under the impression the taxes on legitimate imports were too low, and therefore the smugglers were being put out of business. They took exception to this and the rest is history.

No No No! We'd never have had Margaret Thatcher if there was no women's suffrage.
Doh, Lazs - I forgot to put a note in my original post asking you not to mention women's suffrage. You talk about it more than moving the fields closer together. :D
"Dolt" - LOL! A word immortalised by Hitech himself. :lol

I believe that there are too many important things for one man to give enough time to all of them so I concentrate on the really important issues like womans sufferage and moving the fields closer together.
as new maps with closer fields come out and as nb fixes infinity with some closer fields.... AH get's better..
as less women are allowed to vote... the world will get better..

Well I think that the only people who should be allowed to vote are the ones who know how to use an apostrophe correctly.

Don't forget the ones who are wound too tightly...you know, the ones who grade posts on a Gaming BBS for spelling and punctuation errors.

What is ironic is that I might have to teach the two pseudo-Yanks (or pseudo-Yankers? ;)) about their own history. You two cloth-heads do realise that the Boston tea party was not about high taxation? That's just a line they sell the tourists around the harbour. It was more complicated and really concerns taxation without representation.

We got pissed and did something about it...kinda simple really:)

I believe most yanks are familiar with the term "no taxation without representation"
It was all a scam anyway... we just used it as an excuse to throw your effeminate limey butts out of our country.

Funny that San Francisco, California etc developed after independence. Must have kept some of that 'effeminateness' for yourselves and formed a whole new state with it. Incidentally, where do you live? Coney Island wasn't it?
-
I know this is hard for someone from a tiny little island to understand but.... frisco is a very small little pimple on Californias butt... even so... not every single person in frisco is gay.. In fact, unlike your island... most of em don't even sound gay.
