Oh sure, we all embraced trees a month or so ago when that attorney in California hid behind one to avoid getting killed by the angry fat man at the courthouse. A small tree saved his life, as he moved around the tree like a stripper around a pole. "Love the trees!" we all said; "They could save our lives!" we chanted.
Now comes this story that reveals trees for the menace that they are!
Jogger Killed by Toppling Magnolia Tree, Body Not Found Until Branches Were Removed
The Associated Press
TITUSVILLE, Fla. Dec. 9 — A woman on her morning jog was killed Tuesday after being crushed by a 40-foot magnolia tree that fell on her.
Amber Farrell, 27, was about 25 feet from the tree on a residential street when it fell and struck her from behind, trapping her under its 2-foot-thick trunk, said police spokesman Todd Hutchinson.
Farrell's husband reported her missing when she didn't return from her jog but her body wasn't found until city workers began cutting up the tree to clear the street.
"I was standing over her and didn't know it," said Eddie Floyd, a tree cutter. "I was dropping limbs and didn't know it."
Hutchinson said the magnolia had appeared healthy. "There was no indication that the tree had any decay, but apparently the root was decayed," he said.

seems to me you could outrun a falling tree right? its not like they fall fast, plus if your already jogging....seems fishy....i blame bush.

Sounds like the husband has a rock solid case for a lawsuit against the property owners for negligence. They obviously were not being responsible when they neglected to make sure of the health and well-being of the tree on their property. A massive tree such as this should have been properly cared for and removed once the defect was found in the roots especially with the knowledge that the height would allow it to reach public areas where innocent pedestrians could suffer physical harm or property damage. It was a danger to the community just as if someone stockpiled drums of gasoline, sarin, explosives, or bibles.
I hope the state's attorney general will start an investigation into whether or not criminal charges can be filed against the property owner.
F*****g tree owners, they ought to have to register these killing machines. Kids carrying twigs to school... eyes getting put out... we need the government to regulate this, you just shouldn't be able to buy a sapling at Home Depot or Lowes without a 3 day waiting period and backyard check.
