So it doesnt bother you guys that someone , for less then ten grand, could build a missile, capable of dellivering whatever he chose to pack the 'warhead' with, pretty much to wherever he wished to delliver it??

You are really prepared to just dismiss the whole thing as some mad, tax dodging looney?

If the guy was a Muslim ex-pat Iraqi with an attitude living in Calafornia, would it bother you then? I'm betting it sure as shiites would, and it would probably have the whole US of A in a tizzy if that were the case.

Funny thing is, I see no differance whatsoever, fact is, it can be done.

I'm not saying nuke NZ, or even arrest the guy, but I think scoffing, and dismissing his findings is just a tad on the naive side.

He says he attracted considerable interest from potential buyers - including an offer from Iran to pay him for details of his research.

If he'd sold the missile, maybe he wouldn't have been bankrupted. :p

Rocketry is not a crime!

Lots of things can be construed for illegal/harmful use.

I mean, model rockets...remote controlled airplanes, etc etc.  Add something that goes boom into an R/C plane and voila, el-cheapo cruise missile, yada yada

Did you guys ever watch the A-Team or MacGyver? :p

My favorite episode of MacGyver was the one when he was imprisoned and then he improvised some tools to escape and THEN he ruined the bad guy's plan with more quick thinking - it was AWESOME!!!

Ok... we need a 40 kiloton nuke to get out of this one... find me a paper clip, a rubber band, and give me your left boot.

so basicly .... if you want to do anythign inovative it must be goverment sanctioned? ... oh wait .. i mean US govenment sanctioned .. this is in NZ!!!

Fact is,  ignorance is what keeps everyone  from building things like cruise missles .. not materials, like nukes..... joe anybody can't just enrich uranium .... but makeing a cruise missle ... bah ..easy enf in my head were I so inclined.   Might take me a few years if i started from scratch .. but your talking about 1940's technology here ..... it's not THAT complicated ....

put down your tesla coils .. the man has spoken .... buhahahaha!!

this just means you won't hear about the next 'good' guy who   does this .. doesn't mean it won't happen...

you'll also never hear about the guy who plans to use it as a real weapon, and not a learning & exploration tool.

Once he tests it and hits something smaller than Tasmania, Then we will have to worry.

Couple it with a cheap GPS system & he could hit a car sized target.

Hmmm bet it wouldn't be all THAT hard to do if a guy really worked at it.

Pooh21 can I get those plans for the plasma rifle? Wifes been wanting one for a couple of years now.

In theory, it is simple, but doing it is not.

Kind of Ironic that this guy could build a cruise missile all by himself from surplus parts he got off the internet while the Iraqis, with all their manpower and money, never went beyond strapping a few extra fuel tanks to a 40 year old theater ballistic missile they bought from a Soviet Stockpile and renaming it after the idiot that mandated the project.

Kapparoo,

I wasn't talking about the Silkworm they used to hit a shopping mall in Riyad(which was a brilliant tactical move, BTW). My reference was to the Scud extensions they engineered to increase the attack radius. The resulting Scud B or, as their original minds named it, Al Hussain, was longer, farther-striking and less accurate. Accurate enough to hit a city as big as Tel-Aviv, as we learned in the early nineties, but hardly a precision weapon.
