Yes, the corks will dry out with them stored like that.
-
Lazs don't drink.

No because most wineries today use synthetic corks so there's no cork rotting now. Also wine used to be stored, and pored, with the label up because setiment would gather at the bottom, but nowadays the setiment is filtered out of wine before it's bottled.

If the cork dries out it won't seal (turning the wine to crap) and will fall apart during opening (filling the crappy wine with corky tidbits).

LOL, what do you have to do to get the wine bottles out, lift off the whole glass top?
Other than that, it's a materpiece!

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, BREAK GLASS

I have a practicle idea for a design modification: Take the glass off and throw it away, spinkle some nachos in the center and stuff beer and ice in the cylinders.
Maybe even put it on little wheels and mount a big chain to the front so it can be pulled around next to the computer if needed.
-
Well if my wife was drinking those bottles they wouldn't last much more than 2-3 days. I myself am a scotch and ice kind of guy and Warsteiner in the fridge at an agreeable low temperature as well.
-
I agree storing wine this way is plain wrong ... light , heat ...
I don't want to drink such bottle :)

Was thinking the same thing.... bad design....
-
Who would want to drink out of a bottle with synthetic cork ???
Surpasses my comprehention.

I'm just wondering if Buick's 215cd/Rover 3,5liter was made of aluminium?
Would be much lighter than a iron block.
Can't afford to buy a Keith Black block...

Yet another nail in the coffin of the Beer vs Wine debate..

Yes, the all aluminium block Buick 215 cu. in. V8 would be much better weight wise, almost half of an ironblock Chevy smallblock ... I had a rather heavily modiefied one of those at one time in a '69 Rover P6B saloon.
I quite like the idea of that for a coffee table.
-
the 215" buick is 325 lbs. A small block ford is 460 and alluminum head small block chev's with late intakes are about 500 lbs. those are for complete engines.
Several of the guys in my modified healey group have the buick engines... they are relatively slow compared to the chevy and ford ones. the motor is wide so no easier to install and the stock healey drive train weighs about 60 lbs more than small block chevy and muncie 4 speed so balance is better in the chevy versions like mine.
for me... the only real use for a 215 would be a coffee table. I can get an all alluminum small block (or big block) if that is a big deal.
