howdy bloom and any other it pros . . . read a post where audigy2 was recommended. just cked the "see how much it costs" site where you see all sorts of prices. but . . . there's seemed different flavors of the audigy2.
i'll be using it for ah and just regular computing stuff with 2 stereo desktop speakers. nothing special i'd imagine.
which flavor of the audigy2 should i hone in on?
thanks,

I have the Audigy 2 Platinum with the thingy that hooks up on the front of your computer. I haven't used it one time, I don't think I even know how to use it. I use 5.1 speakers.
So, I think if you are just going to be doing the basic stuff, just get the original Audigy 2.

The family of Audigy 2 products can be confusing.
CREATIVE LABS SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY2 PCI CARD is the cheapest Audigy2 card you can get. It is the same card as the Audigy 2 Platinum, but without the control panel and other external hardware tidbits.
You can get it for less than $70 online. It comes in a white box (OEM version, which is the cheapest).

I saw the retail box at Comp USA in Honolulu for bout $70.

I tend to stay away from OEM products but thats just my opinion. Ran into too many issues with them. But I do run the Audigy 2 Platinum with the Audigy 2 Live Drive Bay.
Unless you use 1394 devices or plan on doing any sound/video work then there's no reason to spend the extra money. By sound work I mean inputting guitars, keyboards, camcorders, ect... But it is pretty nice if you have a DV camcorder and such. I typically use mine for my guitar, camcorder, and the accessibility of the front mic and audio output ports.
Also there is a remote for those of you who use your system to play MP3's, movies or just plane ole cd's. I have no clue where my remote is though..lol.

I have the Augigy2 Platinum too Cobra. Love the front panel. Being able to plug in the headset and have the gain/volumn control right there makes it worth it for me.
But I also do sound/video editing as a hobby too.
Looking at picking up the Audigy2 ZS Platinum, if I don't get it for Christmas.

I've got the Hercules Game Theatre XP. Best thing about it is the external rack. It has all the inputs/outputs. Doesn't have an external volume control, so you'll have to rely on your speakers for that, but it does have headphone volume and mic input adjustments.
