A few days ago I tried to save some pics off my digital camera by burning them onto a cd (like I have done for several years now) the cd drive opened fine, closed fine. I tried to format the new disk and It said there was no media loaded, so I started looking and found that even under system manager there is only my dvd drive listed, the burner is just gone.... ???? SO I tried to instal it as new hardware and XP can't find it. Does anyone have any Ideas, is it dead? If so how hard is it to instal a new burner. I am fairly competent in gadgets, I know haw to instal pci cards, ram ect.
Pleas I need help, I don't want to store this stuff on my hard drive.
Thanks:confused:

If you haven't already done so, post this in the "Hardware and Software" section. The O'Club postings don't stay on the front page long enough usually.

Crap, thanks for pointing that out, I might have to change the working a little!!!!!!!
I don't want to take up a bunch of room on my hard drive by storing pics.
And then there is that red head next door....

1:Could be a Windows problem...OS may need to be reinstalled.
2:Could be the drive is fubared'.
3:Your IDE channel could be fried.
4:The power supply or IDE cable on the drive may have come loose-reseat them. The IDE cable could also be bad.
Try four first...only guesses, but know way for me to check without being hands on.

It's probably the Upperfilters Lowerfilters problem...
Did you have adaptec Easy cd creator installed?

uhm try this before you do anything drastic.
check your BIOS on start up and see if it's recognized, if not try to auto-detect it.

Probly just a sowtware glich. But no cd/dvd dives are not hard to install. a few screws plug in the power the IDE cable and done.
