Title: Preparing myself for greatest day...ever.
Post by: Nefarious on December 14, 2003, 10:02:12 PM
On Saturday, Me an my Girlfriend drove to my fathers in house in Winchester VA (4 Hour Drive), Tomorrow we will wake up at 5:00 and brave the elements and board the MARC Commuter train in Duffields WV and ride into DC. We are planning to visit the Smithsonian Museums, Including the new Dulles Annex. You may have seen my post from a few days back, I have found out some more Info including they will be running a shuttle from the Air and Space to the Dulles Annex for 7.00 Round trip.

If you havnt heard about it there going to have basically the rest of the aircraft they cant fit in the Museum in Downtown.

I am very excited in seeing a few airplanes I love I've never seen up close, (Or dont  remember seeing)

Just be prepared for Pictures and maybe a few autographs!

And if your going to be there too, post up, and maybe we can work something out...

See ya in a few days!

You going to the Garber Facility? I was there a long time ago the day they were shrink-wrapping the Enola Gay. That was a long time ago. :)

Save money and take the Metro to the Annex. About $2.00 if prices haven't changed.

Good deal!  There isn't much to see in Hawaii wrt warbirds, so I was really excited last year to see the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino.  Next I'm hoping to visit the Udvar F. Hazy Center.. grand opening is today!  (sounds like you're going there too).  I'd love to see the Ta-152 in person, though I'm not sure if they've displayed it yet or not.  Have fun!

Be sure to check out the shuttle Enterprise.  It was originally supposed to be made spaceworthy, but they deferred due to cost, not technology.

Oh yeah SirL, revenge you'd probably get. AI is fun though, I can win most of the time. Like I said, how do you do it? Need IP numbers or is there someplace you go to set it up? Is there a time limit on moves like chess? I can spend 5 hours on 20 moves.

The spit1/Stuka matchup was fun:D

HIJACK!

Well, Just arrived home.

The Udvar-Hazy Museum is Awesome!!!

Went through four rolls of film on both museums,

Highlights for me were-

Downtown Museum

V-1 Rocket
V-2 Rocket
Grumman X-29
Spitfire Mk VII
Bf-109 G6
P-51D Mustang
A6M5
Macchi 202
Nose of the B-26C Flak Bait (As seen in Aces High)
A-4C Skyhawk
F4F WildCat
SBD Dauntless

Plus Many More!

Dulles Annex-

P-40C (Lope's Hope)
F4U-1D Corsair
Arado 234B
Fw-190F-8
N1K2-J
Sieren Floatplane
P-38J
Hurricane Mk IIC
P-47D-30
B-29 (Enola Gay)
F-86 Sabre
MiG-15
MiG-21
F-4B Phantom
A-6E Intruder
X-35 Joint Strike Fighter
Huey Helicopter
SA-2 Surface to Air Missile
Space Shuttle Atlantis
Concorde
Boeing 302
Ju-52

And Many More!

They did not have all the airplanes I hoped for Ta152 and Me262 just to name a few, but they had other planes I did not expect like the infamous N1K2 and the Hurricane Mk IIC (Got a great picture of its "Hizookas").

If you saw any news about opening day, apparently some Japanese/American Protesters snuck paint in and apparently damaged the Enola Gay. Unfortunatley, they had closed the walkway down that went next to it and denied me a good picture of the F6F Hellcat. The good news I guess is that anybody wearing a "No More Hiroshimas" Shirt was thrown out on their asses.

Stay tuned for Pics.

There is a 262 in the same room as a P-80 at the Air and Space Museum.

Sounds like there is probably still a lot of stuff at Garber, which is their restoration facility and warehouse.

Now if you REALLY want to see a lot of planes, go to the USAF museum in Dayton OH.
