So what's this then? Scotch mist? - and don't forget - this is Euro time.
Unfortunately Beet1e took his example of his furball off the site. I'll surmise it was a pic of 4 cons on one and a 2 cons on one about 1 to 2k away. It made a total of 5 on 3 does taht sound like a furball?
BTW Beet1e if you had any balls you would have keft the pic up. It's obvious you dont. However the pick you posted was funny. So be a man and puck your original pic back.
Does anyone have a good shot of a real furball?
Please post so the strat guys have an idea of what a real furball is. Maybe then then they will actually know what they are talking about.
This looks more like a dust ball.:lol

I suppose you may wanna define the numbers required to constitute your "furball"?
I find more than 5-10 vs 5-10 more of a CF than a furball.
-
Yeah,
Hey Iron, pardon my ignorance, what do you mean by cf.
So BBS community what would the numbers be. I would have to say the minimum, 10 on 10 would constitute a small furball. I would think 25 on 25 would be more accurate.
-
Lol. 4 on one v. Hijacker.
Some furball.

Sorry mars, the filter would get it. I'll paraphrase, more than 10 on 10 may still be a furball but not my idea of fun.
-
Yeah, REAL FUN is being one of 30 inbound base takers against 3 or 4 base defenders still sitting in the tower looking at the dar bar when the fuel tanks start exploding.
Right, Iron?
-
ya know mars.... these days even that is an action packed furball for me. It's close to the ground and fairly even numbers... I would settle for finding those close to the base but...
the 10 v 10 or more that are being fed from a close base or CV.... welll... that's what gets the blood going!
lazs
-
LOL CF got it.
Yeah, tell me bout it Laz. I have to admit though, there were some nice big furballs Friday night when I logged in around 10pm est. I couldn't believe it. Thank god for the CV groups on BI.
-
My definition of a furball is an air-to-air engagement between a group of fighters.
If I had to put numbers to it...
2+ v 2+ = small furball
7+ v 7+ = medium furball
15+ v 15+ = large furball
The numbers above assume (1) planes more or less engaged within icon range of each other while others may be just out of view as dots etc., (2) net number of planes in a fight since some will be entering or leaving the fight.

Right, Iron?
Awe come on Toad. You know I often go in groups of 6-8 for base capture, rarely more than that.
I rarely if ever survive large furballs, just to many to keep track of and many times the fight has become too lopsided by the time I get there.

Jackprettythang1,
your wit is even lower than your score.:lol How about getting your K/D ratio over 2 - how long have you been here may/02 not once was it over 2. K/H =5 WTG super star!!! You really mix it up in the MA huh lolh. :aok
-
score means nonthing.
-
Score tells all.:)
What should your score tell us Skull or what isn't your score telling us?
-
Nah, score means little. It may or may not indicate skill; more often it indicates playing style.

couldn't been said it better
-
Yeah, I agree Lev.
But it does tell you some basics about a persons ability as well.
For example if a person was just playing an arcade style, who cares if you die, Quake arena, you would think that their K/D ratio would suck.
Huh do I mean much like Jack and Beet. Ahh beet I wanted to lump you in there, but alas I cant. Good job, nice K/D history, you at least do fly to live. But jack ole boy, for god sakes your K/D was .9 last tour. You bet I do.
So then I thought ok maybe jack is just a little slow. So I looked at his Hit%eges. Low and behold they are respectable. It at least tells me that jack can hit the broad side of a barn.
So then I started thinking. Hmmmm a familiare pattern... can hit stuff but never lives. What does that sound like. One more time, kills stuff but kills himself too, alot. Wait, I got it. Suiciders. Quarter wheeling, arcade, unlimited death sweetheart bag fuel porking Jacal1.:D
Thats what his score tells me. So I agree, score is not perfect but The components of the score are telling.
-
But still Lev,
How does your score misrepresent you?
I asked skull but he couldn't say it any better.
Honestly Skull how does your score misrepresent you? It's one thing to make bold statements, but please back it up.
-
yes im a better bomber dweeb than that. i forget to turn the attack when i fly fighter missions. I haven't captured one base yet and ive tried 5 time but know rooks. they only care about vulch i will usually die to some tard that bring 2 la7s on him over me while i am scream you mother F***er im the goon you Ahole. Im also better gv guy than what my score show cause i will up to spawn camped spawns unknowingly.
-
ok rgr that

I used to think that score and the various ratios mattered...
mars, you sound like a real ace to me.
(All the pun in the world intended)
Oh, and mars... Please do tell us how to play, we're completely lost. We want maybe to be half as great as you.
-
Why'd you change the pic back beet?
-
jakal... ur little green ballon heads are starting to foam at the mouth...
I agree that score means nothing and lev is right, stats indicate style... I mean, if you cherry pick you can have a 60/1 k/d if you are very cautious in late war planes or, if you allways attack planes that are in superior numbers you might only get a couple before you die but....
your k/d stats would indicate that every time you ran into anybody you have a better than 50/50 chance of him/them/the ground, kicking your butt before you can even get off a shot. If you are playing the widely diverse and highly complex strat "chessmaster of the sky" game that you claim and simply on a "missun" when you fly, not caring about death but working for a higher power and goal.... then your missun must be.....
try to ram the first plane you see and hope for the best.

Like I said, stats may indicate skill but not necessarily. Someone who obtains a massive K/D ratio through cautious flying might not hold a candle in 1v1 combat to a guy with a K/D below 1. A guy with a 4/1 K/D ratio... is he a bad BnZer or a great furballer? It's all about context. For example, the FDBs are a bunch of decent sticks who care little about score or stats. You're not going to get any sense of how they fly or how well they fly by looking at their stats.
For an individual example, take a look at Honch. The guy flies P-40s for God's sake. No matter how skilled he is, he's almost guaranteed to have a lower K/D ratio and K/H than someone in a faster, better armed, better turning plane. So again, context matters.
-- Todd/Leviathn
-
yep.. agreed.. you need to factor in a lot of things. Early war, less capable planes take more skill to do well in. you "earn" your kills more... a high K/H means that you fight more ioften and in harms way more.
you can probly guess that a guy flying a d9 or p51 with a 10/1 k/d and 3 k/h is flying very caustiously and mostly taking the risk free kills... maybe someone who has good skills or not... for sure he doesn't get much air to air combat experiance..
you can probly guess that the guy with a 3/1 kd and 12 k/h in a p40 is a tough guy to run up against.. that he is going where the fight is and mixing it up. He has lots of experiance in difficult situations.
surely there are exceptions but over a few tours the stats tell a lot about a player.

Work the edges of the fight Iron. Don't go into the middle of it and expect to live. I have a 10 kill Hurri 2 sortie on film where I stay on the fringes of the fight w/o going into the middle of it. If you want to see it let me know.

I agree. I do watch my gunnery score very closely. I also watch my k/d ratio but not as closely. If my k/d is dropping it's usually because my SA isn't very good or I am having repeated stupidity spasms. :D

I disagree on the "for sure he doesn't get much air to air combat experiance" part ;). Extricating oneself out of dicey situations doesn't equate to kills but just as valuable in learning air to air combat. This doesn't show up in stats or scores.

For some, extrication means killing all of the badguys or making them extricate themselves out of a dicey situation. :)

And that he probably didn't fly on BI, AKD or Trinity when he posted those stats. ;)
The P-40, a lovely airplane, is just too slow for that in all likelihood. With the bases so far apart and all. ;)

There ya go again Humpy talking about something you have absolutely no knowledge on. It`s called Aces High. You should try it sometime.
The book of stats you keep so high on your list of things to whine about is a joke or in your case a "dweeb meter"
With your preset hugging the ground prearranged ..... well whatever somebody would use for a label for something so lame.....makes ya look real weak bud. The higher your ever so worshipped K/D gets, the more it shows just what a limp wrist you are.
You certainly can`t speak on the game because you don`t participate in the game, not even close.
What I wonder s how many peeps that read your "furballer community" spokesperson posts know that what you do in the MA can`t even get in the same world as a true furballer. Simply put you only play it safe, swapping kills back and forth with your SMALL band of butt sniffers. The true furballers in the game contribute a great deal to the game and are an important factor of the total community. You sir, on the other hand are a farce, bogus, fake. When you start actualy participating in the game then and only then will you be able to speak with any knowledgable input. I don`t think this will happen because I believe you know you just flat couldn`t hack it so you just play it safe and continue with the ole smoke and mirrors on the BBS. BTW, most that reads these posts can see through the veil right away so I think you just do it now to reassure yourself that there is a chance you might possibly not be as lame as you yourself know you are. Save the wear on your typing fingers Humpy. It aint working, is it? :rofl :D :)

I have some great shots of a furball last night. Just have no where to host them. Any Ideas. Beet I'd give em to you but they would be more of your famlily picks by the time your done. *) lol Sheep was funny too. Cuty do you have her number?
-
I'll put em up, if you want. email me.
-
Had some great furball fun last night in a spit V. A blast... turned into a vulch eventually so I had to stop upping. Man, I love those rare furbys!!!
-
Hiya Jackal, is your ingame name the same as your bbs name?
Ty, in adavance, for responding.
-
Yes, because the CV was close.
-
you cant tell a thing from someone's score, its just gamey stats that can be over exaggerated. If you find yourself constantly checking your score, and others - the game really won't be fun.
Personally, i think it would be better if they removed the score facility from inside the game all together, would remove a lot of the dweebery and tension.

You can try, but doesn't look like your doing to well at it.:aok

Stop it you guys! geez, I spend so much time reading all the dweebery here, I dont have time to go play. (all in fun, dont take it serious)
I would like to say that mars, from the times I have seen him fly, is a pretty good stick. I dont know if I agree about the scores being completely relevent, but i doseewhere you can learn a bit about where others are successful and you are not.
My K/D...terrible
K/H...not so good either
K/S...worse
hit%..comes and goes, but generally 6%....sad, so sad.
But I dont know that i really want to play differently so that I can change these numbers. I generally have more fun with smaller groups around, even if its just me against 3 or 4. Getting a 10v10 between 2 close bases is a blast, but its something pretty rare in my experience. Get more than that and I lose the fun factor and it becomes a situation where I am pressing to keep my base from being porked, or to stay alive, because it is getting porked or vulched (and I want to try to stop the vulching but usually just die trying). I dont do well in bombers or GV's, so dont like doing that as much, but constantly getting killed in fighters is annoying.
For me, I just want to feel like I put up a decent fight as I sit in the tower and ponder my next flight. Even that is becoming rare.
-
There are a certain number of people that can look at almost anyone thumping their chest and think to themselves... I'd mug the crap outta that guy in a fight.
And there are a certain number of people that think that the more they post about how great they are, the more people will believe it. Generally, the "Score potatos" fit in the second group.
-
LOL,
Aww Jackal likes to push buttons and antagonize - he doesn't say or do much else on these boards, so I like to have a little fun with him. lolh:D
Thanks blk. Ditto. It wasnt until I started caring about my score that I actually started to improve. It made me think about the situation more and how best to approach it, rather then just flying in and potato peeling up. Made me care about surviving to RTB. I dont take it overbord, if the job needs to be done I will pay the ultimate price lol. I agree worrying about your score all the time is no way to play this game and will likely ruine the game for anyone.
Scores are telling if you can read them right. Are they a perfect science no. Are there extenuating and mitigating circumstances that affect score, yes. Do you have to look at the stats page to see what the person predominantly flies to get a better picture, yes. All in all the score is a decent way to get a feel for the type of player the person is. Since it is the only measuring stick in here other than the DA, I guess we have to live with it.
So those with a crappy score will say score means nothing, those with a decent score will say score is not totally accurate but it is telling. The rest will fall somewhere in the middle. I honestly think this is a good discussion both ways .
There is no chest beating here. I am an average pilot at best. There are alot better in AH than me, as my score shows.
-
Wow Jackal fifty three hours..day 16
178 kills and a 199 deaths.
With time you'll improve..
Get some sun tho..
...when you can
For what it's worth, your comments on "gameplay" may represent a common concensus.
Which is unfortunate.
But hey, your having fun doing what ever you do for a hundred or so hours a month..
You go !!
-
Amen BLK... if ya havin fun... you are gettin your $'s worth.
Numbers don't prove much other than perhaps flying style... best 1v1 dudes in the game have relatively unremarkable scores... check our Lev, Wldthing, .. and others (no offense to those I didn't mention)
Conversely, check out guys like Metatron.., good numbers but completely unknown if he has any skills because he is either alt-whoring or spawncamping. I'd bet he has mediocre skills and does what he does in an attempt to mask his on insecurities in the game, and life.
-
That's pretty funny Steve. I bet you check my score more than I do. Looking at it now I think I could take #1 GV score by driving one PT boat. That sucks because it bores me worse than reading your drivel.
