A distant relative of mine called and told me she had a basement full of R/C Airplanes and parts from her husband who passed away a few years back.
She said there was some engines in there too.
She said if I wanted it, to come pick it up, but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort.
Anyone into R/C stuff? I know I dont have names or model #s but generally, is this stuff worth anything?
-
R/C planes are a lot of fun. Even if the radios are old, the engines are timeless.
It's worth trying out, especially if you can get the stuff for free. If you decide you don't want it, you can ebay it.
...but I think you'll like it.
-
Yes, they are worth something, particularly if the parts still work. Even if they don't, folks could use them for parts.
-
Go to ebay and take a look. Its all normally worth something, and on the odd chance he has an antique engine, its definitly worth something. Or you can always take the stuff to a swap meet and sell it off. Definitly worth the time to check.

Check with your local hobby shop. He might take them on consignment.

Yeah but don't play the total RC noob or else he'll rape you, "Oh a Jett .50 engine... well ya might get $20 for it" kind of BS. Maybe consider asking him about the local club and contacting some members there. More than likely they have a newsletter that you can advertise the items in.
Another thought, once you find out what is there, is to go to Tower Hobbies website and maybe get an idea on how to price the engines/accessories.
If there are any 4-stroke engines or unstarted kits please contact me. :)
And yes, RC is a great hobby, be it planes, helicopters, cars, or boats.

Old radios are no good anymore..They chenged the frequencies recently and a lot of they older stuff are banned from R/C clubs....Just so ya know before you sell em or give em away to a hopefull modeler.

Check with Hangtime....if you can find him around here anymore. He is into RC stuff and probably knows if the stuff is worth anything.
-
Check with hitech, he's an expert on that stuff, I think he's even an instructor.

I fly r/c aircraft (or did). Radios can become obsolete pretty quickly, but other things can retain value (such as engines and airframes).

Let me know what she has got....or if you can take pictures I can identify anything for you and give value. If there are any warbirds I will purchase them from you. It is definelty worth the effort, you can make some good money reselling the stuff.
