Greetings :D
Would any1 be having FILMS on the execution of Reversal, ie..Split
turns, etc in order to evade the nme on ur 6. I know... I know..
u shouldn't present ur 6 to the nme, but it happens to me a lot, try as I may to avoid it.
Prolly because I MERGE incorrectly & loose an experienced pilot in
my views :(
Thx 4 ur assistance in this endeavor, I've read Drex's article, pro-
vided by Hooligan re Reversals, but m still unable to reverse suc-
cessfully against a wily nme

Hey WT,
I looked at that film, and I gota say its truly amazing.
Thats years and years of experience.

When it comes to defensive tactics, just watch some of Drex's films. I learned from them that, often, if your enemy isn't under your gunsight, the next best place for him to be is coming in fast on your six.

I have to say nice film Wldthing! <

Yes, Yes ,Yes  np:)

Best reversal I know of is a slow right turn until the con gets about 1000 out, then a hard left turn then full right rudder and a notch or two of flaps into a barrel roll. You're either dead or behind your opponent in no time flat.

Had some good duels with Wldthing on film, but its all on fried computer. Its a good matchup. :D

Page #67 Shaw's book i believe

Shaking someone on my six is typically pretty hard depending on what the attacker is flying. Snap rolls tend to work very well on aircraft with alot of energy. Thats a matter of timing the roll properly cause if you don't your toast.
One of the maneuvers I've found works best on an aircraft with slightly more energy and less turning ability is as follows. Most tend to come in on me in a lead pursuit position. That makes the maneuver even more effective. Especially against aircraft with nose mounted weapons. I'll allow them to keep there lead turn fairly steady as they approach. During this time I'm gently pulling back the stick in the bank and loading them up. Don't wanna do to much during the bank or else they'll predict whats next. Once they're within around 500 or less I pull harder into the turn and adjust slightly nose up to spoil deflection solution, bring the the aircraft to roll wings level then into the vertical climb. After a second or so I go inverted reaquire the target and complete a barrell roll back down onto there six. Also during this period I'm adjusting my throttle back slightly during closure, full on in the vertical then chopped back while inverted and reaquiring the target.
Don't try this one against a turner unless your positive of there energy state and deceleration capabilities. If not they'll saddle up or you'll even possibly be in scissors fight.

^ Once again the defensive lag displacement roll, sweet move

Agree.........:aok

Can anybody post diagrams? Films are great...but are sometimes the moves are hard to follow.

Shuckins if your really interested in learning tactics and maneuvering I'd suggest you get some books on it. There are many out there that don't cost much and give alot of great insight on the subject.
I've learned to fly just by trial and error. Every month I've gotten better and better. I'm not sure how long you've flown flight sims but for myself I've only been flying for about 6 months now. It'll take time to get better and learning the basic maneuvers is your best bet. From there you'll still have to train and/or put your feet to the fire to learn how to use what you've learned. No engagement is ever the same. With this being a big factor in how and when you fight it will only be learned over time.
I'd give some studies on what plane you plan on flying or better yet what your current tendencies are when flying. That will give you a better foundation to know what type of tactics and plane you should start flying. I wouldn't start out with a extremely difficult aircraft right off the bat. Once you've found a suitable aircraft then look to see what it's pros and cons are and fly it accordingly. Most peoples mistakes are flying the aircraft out of it's envelope to the point of a catastrophic mistake. Mistakes aren't always bad as they are a learning tool for your next engagement but too many can cause frustration.
Here's a few books I'd recommend for Tactics and ACM.
Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering By: Robert L. Shaw
Allied Fighter Aces of WWII By: Mike Spick
Luftwaffe Fighter Aces By: Mike Spick
There are a few other out there that are good for what we do on AH. One of them has slipped my mind but when I rememeber it I'll post it here. Hope this helps some. Oh and you can find these books at Amazon.com.

watch the films with ahfilm.exe not the "film" button on the splash screen... it's a better, more powerful viewer.
enable trails and external/pan and you'll get a better idea.
