Why not?
I'm thinking about throwing another one together.
Two questions:
1) Would ya be interested in participating?
2) If it were 3 Axis plane types vs 3 Allied plane types, what would be considered an even match-up?
----Edit----
Oh, for anyone who wasn't around and doesn't know what this is... Basically, a bunch of planes from 2 sides fight eachother. The side with the final surviving plane/s wins. Pretty simple. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

If there are Spits in it, I would play.
-
Yeah, that's what I'm aimin' for, sort of.
If there are only 2 plane types it's very limiting to people. The problem is that *I* have no idea how to open it up and still have it considered balanced.
So this is one for the experts... How many plane types can we get in there and still have a fair match? And what would those planes be (Allied vs Axis)?

plane type doesnt matter - sounds fun. would be happiest in fockwe wulf or 109 but will fly anything with a prop. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Late war planes all? To keep it even, you know... in that scenario I'd say:
Allies:
P-51D
Yak-9U
P-38L
Axis:
Fw-190D-9
Me-109G-10
N1KJ-2
If you wanted to open it up to mid-war, the choices are better:
Allies:
P-51D
P-38L
Spitfire Mk IX
Axis
Fw-190D-9
Me-109G-6
A6M-5 Zero-sen or Macchi C.205
Thoughts? Is that balanced?

First, sorry if my English is not up to what I am trying to say here.
The Rumble stood much for what was behind it. A gauntlet trown. A challenge and quest. It wasn't just bunch of planes put together and against each other.
We remember what it was. It was die-hard Allies vs die-hard Axis (more or less). Ancient rivalry, antagonism, ego, pressure, etc etc. It has to have story behind it.
It is not just some La7 + P 51 vs Niki + D-9 duel. IMO.
Maybe you should look for Rumble candidates between planes close to each other in certain performance or arena stats. Even better if those were historical enemies. Mixing theaters, hmmm, sceptical about that one, takes away immersion.
Suggestions:
Nikis vs C-Hogs
Dunno much how about those two fare against each other, but it is THE Pacific rumble, those deserve each other.
Ta 152H-1s vs Tempests
Remember Willi Reschke ? Same thing.
Fw 190D-9s vs P51Bs and P 51Ds
Yummy. You can throw in additional P47s and 190A-8s or A-5s.
Fw 190A-5s vs Spit IXs
A-5 is close to A-3 and it might be nice 1942 setup. Some 109F or G and Spit Vs to add variety.
La5 and Yak (1943 type) vs 109G-6 and 190A-5
EF, enough said.
La7 and Yak(1944) vs G-10 and D-9
1945, East of Berlin
La7 vs P51
Kozhedub had to shoot P51s. Why not here ?
-
Oh, almost forgot. The Rumble wouldn't be what it was without the needed publicity and story behind it.
You did great work last year, Nash. Wish I could find those pages again.
-
Hmm those are pretty good Hristo!
To that I would add F6F-5 Vs. A6M5 and P-38L vs C.205
-
Also
Il-2 vs Ju 87G
Again, EF.
P47s vs 190As
ETO radials

Good suggestions (er.. I think, but what the hell do I know?)...
However, *slightly* missing the point, in my opinion.
This aint plane vs plane, this is pilot vs pilot. Side vs Side.
The idea is to get Axis and Allied pilots duking it out. No fancy objectives. No fancy ROE. Multiple planes in one small area... an insane furball, with the outcome riding on whoever is able to survive it all.
So...
What rides they take up is only important in that the sides are balanced and they offer a variety of choices to the pilots.
A Niki vs Chog fight, for example, would end up in some kinda AC performance debate, I reckon.
Nah... like last year, this is Arrogant Luftwhiners vs Allied Scum.
Optimally, we would be able to put together a set of AC that would allow the maximum choice to pilots of either side, yet still keep it balanced and fair.
And to futher keep the AC performance thing out of this, I think the Niki and Chog should not be a part of this fight.
3+ Allied planes vs 3+ Axis planes. 50+ pilots. 15 square mile area, to the death.
In that light, is it possible to agree on a *minimum* of 3 planes per side?
Hristo... yeah... I tossed those pages after they weren't needed. They're gone. But I'll whip up another site again to cover this one. I can't think of a better "story" than rematch, revenge, redemption, retribution... you name it. Rumble... bloody noses and all.
You and Hangtime really need to lead this one again.
-
Tempting indeed...
"The Payback"
Axis
Fw 190A-5
Fw 190A-8
Fw 190D-9
Me 109G-6
Me 109G-10
(Ta 152H-1 - maybe)
VS.
Allies
P 51B
P 51D
P 47C (will arrive)
P 47D-25
P 47D-30
P 38L
Everyone take the plane in which he thinks he can do best and helps his side. If that generates to Doras vs P51Bs, so be it.
-
There we go...
Allies comment on this proposal?
Also, if Spits were thrown in, what would be the Axis counterpart?
And also... from my experience, except for a few notable pilots, 38's are just fodder. Hows about replacing them with something else?
I know this is gonna get nit-picky but I'm sure something can get worked out.
-
Spits can be trown in, but I am against mixing nations (US+Britain, for example). Not only it rarely happened, but also because we might soon have LW/IJA/IJN/RA vs RAF/VVS/USAAF/Navy and soon it will all generate into a chaotic HA.
Spits in AH have their match in early 109s (F-4 and G-2, perhaps G-6) and 190A-5.
I suggest we wait for Spit XIV and make SpitXIV+Tempest vs D-9+?.
-
p38s are fodder? when i start playing aces higgh again, i challenge u p38 v c hog (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ill show you fodder hehe

Put the P-51D in this and I will be there. I would bet that most of the 412th would be there too (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

We are not getting a 47C yet anyway.
47 D11 yes.
The thing is that nobody is going to fly the "weaker" birds if they have a choice.
Spit IX, 51D allies.
205, 190-D9 Axis.
Well matched, both sides with a "turner" and a speedster.
Dueling arena. Pick the fields. Launch at a given time, no other rules.
Keep it as simple as possible is my advice. That way it's down to the pilots, not the rules.

If you want a closer match, I'd suggest replacing the SpitIX with a La5FN. The 205 and La5FN are pretty close in regards to turning, La5 might be faster.
Just my opinion though.

As long as you have P47's, any model (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I'll adjust tactics to conform
