Wow!  If my family would've owned a 40mm ammo factory I'd be living on the Rivera.  

   Actually they owned a Coal mine, but it went under around 1947 and we all ended up working for a living.   But, you can always dream....

Ah... seems "the lashings are really getting me down" would have made more sense then.  At first glance I thought it was someone Japanese mispelling Rash.

Besides, everyone knows they don't have "the lash" in the Navy any more and alchohol is not allowed on board.  The poster is completely wrong on 2 of 3 counts.

If I recall, it was a Churchill Quote. Something along the lines of "don't tell me about Naval tradition, it's nothing but Sodomy, Rum, and the lash" or words to that effect.
