Title: Thanks Fester!
Post by: Toad on December 26, 2003, 11:23:50 PM
Just a public "thank you" for the vision to create a good map and the willingness to execute the vision.

It's almost like the "good old days" on your map. It stokes the fires to play again.

S! glad you enjoyed it.

things to look for in the new patched version of festerma:

ive taken the travel times between many bases and doubled them to give more variety to the air war. seeing much more high alt fights in addition to the low alt large furballs. so far so good.

i have added fleets that contain only a single battleship and no carrier or escorts, they can only spawn pt and lvts and have been very good base sneakers so far. also good cv killers. each country has 2 in addition to the 4 carriers per country.

I have added a lot more clouds. clouds rule.

I changed spawn points around factories to be 5 miles (I missed a few on accident on the gv routes) but overall no instant resupply anymore.

I added shore batteries and pt spawns all over the coast.

I added manned acks to factories and flanking cities have shore batteries to combat gv's and the nearby enemy base (like artillery)

I added 3 easter eggs, 1 of wich has sheep being abducted by aliens :D

I changed a whole bunch of airbases to vehicle bases (thus increasing the flight times for fighters to enemy airbases)

some other stuff i forgot to mention but that covers most of the changes.

enjoy

I spent some time with the Vbases.  I really like the changes over the other maps.  (town and ack).

"you made less airbases and made a bunch of em twice as far apart?"

I am hoping that he meant the ones he made farther apart, he did so by turning some of the bases between them into V bases.    FesterMA  looks great as it is....it'd really suck if suddenly it became long and boring like pizza or something.  As long as there's enough close bases to support a consistent good fight, then the "fringe" bases can be 200 miles apart for all i care.

dont worry lazs still close bases in the center for instant furballs.

but there is also far spaced bases on the flanks and in strategic locations.

basically more variety

We'll before it was turned into Trinity it was a good map.  The heavy action  due to the close bases is gone.  I definatly miss the  closer bases no doubt about that.  The strat is business as usual - as usual.

lol ya cant win can ya.

no matter what you do no one will be happy...

but no worries I had a contingency for this when i started building the map...

i built it the way i wanted it, saw how it panned out when in play, and made more changes to make it more how I wanted it to work.

So wait Fester are you abandoing your idea, your vision? Are you now turning festerma to look like all the other maps? What is this less airfields alltogether and many of the rest moved twice as far apart?   What???
Title: Thanks Fester!
Post by: Yorba on December 28, 2003, 05:06:42 AM
I think he is just concentrating the front by making the flanks a bit less attractive.  For furballers (of which i am NOT one), that is a good thing i would think.  My only complain of festerma is lack of high alt bases...I kinda like the variety of planes that a high alt battleground creates.

This map has it all...
Furballers can find a fite fast...
Strat guys have to work overtime to do any good....
V-bases with towns means no more 2 plane captures....
Lots of spawn points for the groundpounders...
and no 25k mountainns to try to fly around....

best map we got  IMO  :aok

thanks Fester

Also found a Shore battery at an inland base pointing at a vehicle spawn.

Havent been able to get into any of these, when i double click a factory it automatically brings me to the nearest airfield.

you access the guns at factories from the large airfield zone bases

just like you are going to a manned ack on the field. but when you click on the corner yellow circles it takes you to the factories.

The map thread, I try not to get involed in these, but I agree with Hajo, This map has everything. It has good GV battles, furballs and with the new updates, gives the strat people some effect on the " game or war".  CV battles are great too. Love the clouds that he added too. I like to bomb and I found myself in clouds when approaching target. That means I have to make a diff pass or devert to a diff target. Clouds are great for fighting in too. Today a guy ditched me in the clouds but I had fun trying to find him. It didnt bother me we had a good fight going. It was just another element I should have taken into effect I guess and made it feel more like a sim, not a game.

Good job Fester on your map, make some more :D  I feel you have been around along time and you thought of alot of diff. factors , and diff views when making this map. Its a good all around map with what you have to work with. Great Job again. Thanks for you time and effort into this map.

I figured new map your trying things out id give you some feedback.  Sorry I wasn't kissing your prettythang lol:D JK.

The map is still cool has some great new features the base spacing could be tweeked a little more.  Maybe bring them in a little.

Still a thumbs up man.:aok

Fester not sure how many bases along the shore are like this but I've found one that has no shore battery. Not sure if this is done purposely or not but just doesn't seem right.  I'll take a look again to see how many bases but is there anyway this can be added?

Fester,

You were kind enough to ask me on the text buffer last night what I thought of your revised map. I was unable to comment at length at the time, so I'll comment here.

Nice job. At first, I thought I was going to have to sit the week out in the CT, but there was nothing much happening there. In the MA, I got sucked into various furballs in my 109G2. It wasn't my scene. The 109Gx is not a turnfighter or furballer and I shall hold that point of view until I see the film that proves otherwise. The opposition was made up almost entirely of the P51/N1K/LA7 subset, with a few oddments...

But the outer edges of the map provide the field spacing that an e-fiting 109G needs. You fly the 109G10 sometimes, so I'm sure you understand what I'm trying to say. With this plane, I like to use speed and surprise when I can.

The clouds are a nice job. Hehe, I can think of one person who won't be happy, and I'm sure he won't be the only cloud whiner. But clouds were an important factor in WW2 aerial engagements. So was night for that matter! (I refer to aerial bombing) Hehe, I can tell you're used to USA clouds - scattered at 15K. A VFR pilot's dream. Those clouds typically occur at 3K-5K over England with its island climate.

So I had a reasonable session defending our CV - it was just the carrier with (I think) two other vessels.

Fester - thanks for listening to the nonfurballers. :) I never whined about your map. I whined about the gameplay I saw on it. I know that can be a problem on any map, and no-one will disagree with me that we have a preponderance of suicide porkers and gangbang tardz amongst us. But I was able to find an area where I could escape from the gameplay I dislike the most, and find a scenario where I could efite with the 109, and strat around in planes like the F6F/F4U/P38L. And it's all here on the one map!

sorry map sucks....

mindless furballs...5k or 10k...mindless none the less....

no OBJECTIVES at all.....

its just a furballers map...period

seems to play ok still... well... better than every other map at least.   was maybe not a good nite last nite with rooks having 100 more players than everyone else.   They were big on "strat" last night.   still... found some good fights with dildo worshipers.

note that the fester map allmost hit 700 players at one point.   It is not as good as before but is still the best map there is.

Well....

I've been takin a break from AH and have not played the new version, however, if it makes Beetle happy, then I'm certain it sucks.

Just kiddin Fest.....thanks for the effort. also, I still want to offer up thanks to the AK's and others for their efforts as well....to give the personal attention and time to do a map in the first place garners my respect for sure.

Hehe, I saw you whining on CH1 last night. :D I tend to agree, although note the changes about which I spoke - above. ^ You are right. As nonfurballers we need objectives. Right now that's field capture - not much, but all we have. In the previous incarnation of Q.. er, FesterMA, there were no objectives at all.

Rude! Well, well, well. Mr. Cloudwhiner personified. :D:D  ;)

beetle... noticed you quote some guy in your sig but fail to put the quote in context...  the quote is about friggin head to head arena with guys who don't even pay to play... his findings would have nothing to do with the rest of us.... but then.... you knew that didn't you?

lazs
Title: Thanks Fester!
Post by: Toad on December 29, 2003, 12:23:29 PM
Do tell.. what "objectives" do you receive on BI or AKD that are missing on FesterMA?

I thought the "big objective" was to capture bases, win the reset, declare yourself kings of the world for the 30 seconds or so it takes the arena to start all over again.

Did I miss something?
Title: Thanks Fester!
Post by: lazs2 on December 29, 2003, 12:40:21 PM
yep... don't see festers map being reset any different than maps like the pizza abortion...

The only real difference is that people have more choice....  People are not forced to play a boring game.   That may be why some don't like it... people aren't forced to play with them as much.
