The worldwide rescue forces are moving there to help.
A major earthquake has occurred at 5:20 AM lotal time (3:20 AM CET).
Italan, Swiss, British, German, and Russian emergency units are already landing in Teheran.
U.S.A. has offered his help, greetfully accepted by Iranian gov.
I have not found yet an English language source, so no link.
:(

I've been wondering if the US would help, and if offered, would the help be accepted.

i dont like drudge.

Well in that case, I've decided to dislike him too.
-
This is truly awful, I hope that the numbers end up being much lower.
When I read stories like this, I don't object as much to the building codes that so inconvenience me.
I have been pleasantly surprised that I haven't heard any christian types saying this is some sort of message from their god.
-
I'm not particularly fond of Iran but I'd never rejoice over women and children being killed in any calamity. It is a very sad thing.
-
A norwegian fella is gonna lead the international help programme on behalf of the red cross and the other "red" thingy
A real disaster this is :(
-
I don't mind helping. But when it's over, I want a public "Thank You" from their government. That's all....
-
I don't mind helping period.

When I lived in Saudi Arabia, I feared an earthquake ever hitting there. The buildings fell apart without any shaking, there will be a huge loss of life if a decent quake ever hits there.
We never walked along the side of our office building, huge sheets of marble kept falling off and would kill anyone who made the mistake of standing or walking near the building. I walked around it from the parking area at a distance, then approached the door at 90% and moved in quickly.
One building that was almost finished being built just collapsed once, fell into the street. A few died in that one.
I have to imagine building in Iran was similar.
Irans quake is a terrible tragedy to many people (and children) who only want to live their lives and don't give a snot about global politics.

Bam was one of most beautiful city of Iran ...
" Kerman, Dec 26, IRNA -- Governor General of Kerman province Mohammad
Ali Karimi said the 6.3-Richter scale earthquake in the southeastern
city of Bam early on Friday destroyed 60 percent of residential areas
of the city. "

Helping with financial aid w/out strings attached in these most trying of times for the Iranians of Bam will go in the right direction towards a changing of prejudice. Probably a good start in our "anti-terror" campaign. It would be money well spent IMHO.
-
This is why we have building codes. a similar sized earthquake hits the US and 2 people die. Hopefully the survivors will realize they lost their friends and family because a theocratic government keeps them in the dark ages.
-
but this is truely sad
-
Yo, Frog-child, they have mud and sticks to build with. It isn't about the building code, so just say a prayer for them and let it go.
-
lol guys ... Bam was historic city .. few thousands year old....
nor iranian nor any other nation, whitch have sutch areas do not convert them into super ugly super high glass building...
actualy if you have more info about dark ages in iran, i would like to get myself a bit more educated.. .. can you explain it?
