I just upgraded my MB to a MSI nVidia and also went from WIN98 to WINXP (the old MB died, failed to POST).
The problem I'm having is I have all analog CHProducts Joystick, Throttle and ProPedals. The MB does have not a gameport, but my old sound card does (Turtle Beach Montego Quadzilla). I stuck the old sound card and it recognized the game port, but when I install the CH drivers and attach the joystick stuff, it says there is a problem, hardware status not found. I checked CH's website and it says I need a high speed game port for WINXP. The only thing I can find is a SoundBlaster LS with a game port. I can't afford to replace all the joystick stuff with CH USB. I tried the sound card/joystick stuff on a old WIN98 system and it all still works fine.
Any ideas?

Maybe if you try a more modern soundcard. I'm sure the Audigy still comes with an optional gameport. You can also get stand alone gameports which slot in a PCI slot. I know gameport is legacy these days, but you should be able to find something.
Also you can get gameport to USB adapters. Don't know if CH will support that with software

Some have success using gameport/USB adapters from Radio Shack, etc. Do a forum search and you should find several posts. your only other option is dual boot 98/XP.

Just got one of those adapters today for my Microsuck Force Feedback Pro, doesnt work even on win98SE i'd say go for the good sound card.

I have all analog CH stuff too, and have it all plugged in to a "RadioShack" analog/USB adapter and it all works fine. Im still running Win98se and will as long as i can..... they'll take me kickin' and scremin' into XP !!!! I won't go with-out a fight !!!! they can't make me do it !!!! NOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!:p

the audigy has a gameport and it works fine. I'm still using my thrustmaster x-fighter, and ch-pro-pedals with no problems.

I tried the Radio Shack thing, but the joystick I have is the old Force Feedback one based on the CHCombat Stick. It has ten buttons if you include the second Hat switch. The Analog/USB converter only supports 8 buttons. When I tried using button 5 - 10 it wouldn't work correctly. It counted up in binary i.e. button 1 and 4 would show as pressed, not button 5...etc.
I think I'll try the sound card route for now and save my $$ for a new rig later on this year.
The upside with the new MB is I now get 84FPS... :)

Ahhh! I don't think a usb converter will work with a FF stick.

I disabled the FF back long ago. The joystick part still works great. I've gotten about 8 years of use from this joystick. I replaced the Pots twice and beefed up the springs after disabling the FF parts. Love CH, just kinda $$.

I'm looking to upgrade to WinXP but don't want to toss my great CH analog stuff. Anybody having success running Win XP and CH analog, and how ?

I've been running ch-pro pedals with a TM x-fighter stick, through the game-port on my sound-card. switched to xp in the first few months that it was out and have had no problems.
the stick isn't programmable so this might not be an accurate reflection, as to how well it would function in that area.

Three choices:
1) A dual boot rig (Win98 & WinXp in seperate partitions on the same HDD)
2) try this fix: http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showforum=27
3) Or, if you have two PC's leave one with Win98 on it to use Speedkeys with. Program your gear with speedkeys on the win98 machine then unplug the stuff and bring it over to the WinXP machine. that's what I do and it's the simplest method for me right now. Until I get time to build a profile using option 2 above anyway.

Good info. I wasn't sure if they would work through the sound card or not. And the inability to DOS boot was the real killer. I think I'll use Westy's Option 3. If I build a new XP based gaming rig I'll just keep my Win 98 machine for business apps and email, and to program my Throttle and Joystick.
Luckily I only change the programming about every three or four months, so it's not a giant problem.
Pongo, all the new CH stuff is USB. They are getting rid of all their analog gameport equipment now.
If anyone's interested, CH is selling off all their analog stuff on clearance. You can pick up a brand new F-16 Fighterstick for $19 ! The same stick in USB is $150.

$20 is literally a "steal" and the stick parts are worht more than that. My 8-way hat is a little loose after 6 yrs of use and istead of making repairs I'll use this and delegate my old one to being a parts queen.

I bought one about a month ago at the $19.97 price. It arrived in short order, only they forgot the little sticky pads that go on the bottom to keep it from sliding across your desk. A quick email to CH support and they were shipped right away.
Now my trusty old CH Combatstick is serving emergency backup duty. I doubt I'll ever use it, these CH products are built great. By the time my F-16 Fighterstick wears out we'll be using Windows 2016 and CPUs will be in the terahertz range.
