OK, so, for some time now I have been working on a rules set for a game. Simple, non-video PBEM type (OK not really simple). I originally intended this as a printable tabletop game, but have moved into the realm of posting it on a website with everything you would need to play. Its still in work, but I am taking app's to join and will use these as a guide for continuing the pages (what needs doing most and such)
The basis is the era of Wooden ships in their heyday, a wargame with some roleplaying elements. I would ask anyone even remotely interested to take a look, let me know what you think, join in if you want, make suggestions if you have them.
Here's the link:

thank you

Looks like a really cool interesting game man.
On the rules page is there anything after Fire Chain though? My computer bogged down and didn't appear to finnish loading the page...it just hung there.
I'll prolly join up.

heh, yeah, still writing there.
hope to have rules done by thie end of the week end
My main problem is the map pages...waaaay to much to load. Not that its all that slow, but sometimes the gifs dont load. Might just be me though, I'd be interested in seeing if anyone else has that problem.
Thanks for the encouragement :)

Hex map! avoid the 1.4 diagonal movement calculations.
-
nah, not using a 1.4 calculation. Straight up 1 for 1 moves. It takes a little getting used to, but ya gotta not think of the map as true, it is skewed, but it works. I have been playing another game (CWOL) that uses squares and once you get past the whole off kilter movement it works just fine. I would have considered hexes, but squares is easier to set up. If I was a programming guru I could probably do it, but having spend considerable time trying to get into programming stuff, I have to concede my total lack of skill in the area.
Anyway, its not that difficult to play on a square map, just takes getting used to (especially when trying to figure out what the other guy is doing) and once you learn to view it "skewed" (I picture it in my mind as round and it works for me) you'll get the hang of it easy enough. I gotta admit at first it took me by suprise in CWOL, figuring "he cant reach my units"...then after the turn... "How'd he reach my units?" Its the diagonals that screw with ya since you can go just as far north (for example) by moving NW or NE. I am of course open to ideas on the matter, but I do not want to have calculations which change movement on the diagonal. I got enough movement calculations going on.
I suppose hexes wouldn't actually be too difficult if I put my mind to it, but then I would have major rework to do. :(

A lot of freeware work has been done and is out there, take a look at Strategic Map Simulator for a GM to run the game on
http://www.flyingzebra.com/sms/
or the stuff at
http://www.webwargaming.com/
if you get ambitious and want to embed a java ap in your page.
The game concept is great though

hmmm, cool, thanks for the links, I'll look at them when I get the chance.
I fried my old 'puter yesterday, so getting all set up again, may take me a while. Luckily I burned a lot of stuff on CD right before the crash.
-
the SMS looks pretty spiffy. Might be worth doing for a beta type run and as the final set up. I have it installed if you want to send what you have to me, Boozer.

Thanks again

A punt and....
Some dealy on this now. Boozer got me looking at other ideas and had a 'puter crash, so I am not quite as ready to start as I thought I was. Sign up is still open however.
Still cant get that SMS program to run for me.

OK, gearing up again. Gonna run this session as originally intended. Got some maps to finish, but sign up is open.
