I agree 100% with those two. But wtf is this?
New York rockers the Strokes were No. 3[/b]
^ These guys rock, they are... original... sorta.
-
They just figured out that Creed has always sucked? Glad they're right on top of things.
But then they said St. Anger was the 2nd best metal album, so the whole article's credibility gets called into question.
-
Oct, are you trying to argue that The Strokes don't suck? Come on, next you're going to be telling me that Good Charlotte is the next Ramones.
-
Metal mags love to hate creed.

Oh... is Guitar World a "metal mag"?
-
DO NOT disgrace the Ramones by mentioning them with Crap Charlotte in the same sentence :D
They're sound is different and I like the fact that they're not overplayed 500 times a day :) Infact, I haven't heard them in a while on the radio. I dunno, I just like "Last Night."

No.. it's not a metal mag, but it does cater to the metal scene. I guess by proxy it is.
And... I missed something... are you arguing the point or supporting it with that link?

The other big disappointments of the year were listed as "all new music," the break-up of Texas metal veterans Pantera.
Why would the boys want to tour when they have it all waiting at The Clubhouse in Dallas? (http://www.theclubhousedallas.com/photos/pantera/Pantera.html) :D

anybody know where I can find that t-shirt that says "Even Jesus Hates Creed" ? best shirt ever.

All the guitar solo's on the latest metallica album were cut? WTF..
When did we start not buying CD's cause a member of the group did a guitar solo on an album.... Its all Ted Nugents fault!!!
If he wouldn't have been chewing gum and acting all cocky while playing we could still here the metallica guitar solos!!!!

I think hate for Creed extends beyond just the "metal mags".

There should warning labels on Christian Rock CD's.

must be terrible to "suck" and be a millionaire

are you placing Creed in the same boat as ur boy MJ?
I'm saying the band can't "suck" too bad if it's made the lot of them millionaires .. but I really know you were j looking for another reason to post a pix of ur late nite fantasy :)
-
Oh come now, Eagler. Are you defending Creed as an actual fan or just because a few christian rock songs? :p
-
Creed?
Whos is this guy? Some sort of fallen angel with a nack for religious poetry that doesnt rhyme?
Why even bother? Depressing 'cry with me if you love God but hate yourself' bull**** lines and the same three guitar chords on all songs dont make for good music. Just because people dont understand you doesnt mean youre an artist - more than likely, it means youre stupid.
Can you take me higher? I dont give a ****. Go ahead up there and check it out for me, *******, maybe youll be taken high enough by the powers that be and suffocate in the thin oxygen of the upper atmosphere - squeezing the life from your body and sparing us the torture of listening to another one of your bull**** songs and saving the life of a young angst ridden teen who would have otherwise killed himself between songs 6 and 7 on your latest album.
**** Scott Stapp. The third worst front man to ever stand on a stage. **** Creed.
...phew... that was fun.
-
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
saur that deserves: :aok

Wow, sounds like Saur likes Creed about as much as I do. :)

I'm way to old to be a "fan" but they are one of the few bands I don't change the station when my youngest, 18 year old son punches in his rock station..though Arms wide open struck a chord concerning my oldest and his daughter when she was born 3 years ago..

Nah.. it also extends to people who've decided they don't want creed to be termed a rock and roll band.
I saw "you're only defending them because they're a christian band" up above. I kinda get the feeling alot of what is said about them in the negative is for the same reason.
People are finding reasons to hate creed. There's so many **** bands out there right now that people simply have to find new excuses. "Doesn't fit the heavy metal personna" is the one running rampant today. I can't believe someone cited "they're just in it for the money" as a reason to dislike a metal band. I wonder how they feel about Alice Cooper (had a $ on the tail of his 727).

Possibly, but there are christians that don't like Stapp either... http://www.freelancestar.com/News/FLS/2002/122002/12172002/805299
-
Sandman.. you sound like an outsider looking in right now.
There are all types of christians, many don't like any "bands" that have anything to do with secular stations. They practically crucified Amy Grant for her first "secular" release. Talent has nothing to do with it.
I was listening to a local radio station a couple of years ago and they talked about someone in the monsters of rock tour slamming on creed because their music wasn't really rock and roll because it didn't inspire rebellion. They followed it up with plenty of not-so-nice comments about the band. They asked Stapp what he thought about the comments and his reply was "I'll pray for them". They joked about that reply for the next year.
Dunno Sandman... seems to me people just want to hate that band.
MiniD
-
Actually... I never liked the sound of Creed's music. Then, the first time I saw them, it was Stapp doing his messiah thing. I'm an atheist, but I've spent enough of my life as a Babtist to find it offensive.
-
It's tough when you don't know what direction to come from eh sandman? I find it funny watching you try to cover all bases.
Worst band sandman. What did they do this year to merit it (no new album if I read that article correctly)?
People don't like them and find reasons to slam them. Like I said... "in it for the money" was used to tear this band down?

Oh don't give me that crap. It was a legitimate question.
I judge a band based on personal preferences. Hearing them played over and over on just about every station made me want to puke. The overplaying has killed anything I previously liked about the band. Had I wanted to attack a rock group for being christian, I would have said it outright.
-
The baiting is tiresome, Mini.
We're done.
-
Octavius.. I can give you that crap if I want. You brought it up as an issue that... magically works just one way? Really... you're the only one that mentioned it. Sandman is still trying to dance around it.
Did they tour? Did they release a new album? Why are they on the list?

I dunno Mini-D. While some of what you say is undoubtedly true, I don't think its the primary reason...
The other big disappointments of the year were listed as "all new music," the break-up of Texas metal veterans Pantera, the continued absence of a new Guns 'N Roses album, and Marcos Curiel's departure from Christian rock band P.O.D.
At any rate, I find the self-importance of music mags and the posing of the musicians in them to be amusing, at best, and mostly tedious and self-inflated.
I think creed is "simple" rock, and while I haven't bought any albums, my son has, and it's ok for musical simpleton non-metal heads like me (don't like metallica et al except for a song here and there - more an AC/DC 4 chord rock kinda guy).

Creeds first album was a winner, I still listen to it.

Don't skew the original meaning. The question was an either/or and had two ways to it. A fan. or. Someone blindly defending because the word 'christian' was mentioned.
Did they tour? Did they release a new album? Why are they on the list?
MiniD [/B]
No tour. No new album. And You should ask the magazine why they're on the list. They "suck" according to guitar world or whatever they're called. Attempting to justify and define universal terms for suckage won't work.
I mentioned before why I don't care for creed. They have been overplayed even in their year off. Not their fault necessarily. They could have a part in it, agreeing for the major radio stations to play their songs 500 times a week, but it doesn't matter. Someone says "Creed sucks!" and I just happen to agree.
-
WTG Saur :aok
Creed always struck me as Pearl Jam light, and I'm not a big Pearl Jam fan. Then you listen to this clown talk about himself for 10 minutes on VH1 and he even pushes the boundries of Rock Star Ego. LOL
Charon
-
Oh dont even get me started on Pearl Jam.
Eddie ****nut Vedder is the SECOND worst front man ever.
Pearl Jam is even more of a joke than Creed. While I will concede that Ten was a decent album - after that - their attempt to make 'music' were so lame and ego driven that any respect gained for a good first album was erased.
You need a huge ****ing ego to make Vitology. Who else would think that the general public would go buy an album where not ONE WORD was understandable?
-
So... Just to be clear...
They suck because:
1) They're overplayed
2) They're in it for the money
Gotcha. I'm just wondering why Guitar magazine used so many intangeables and no-music related reasons to describe why they don't like creed... as is everyone here. My money says everyone's going to the well of "these are good reasons not to like a band so let's say it about creed".
I don't know what's setting people off in regards to this band, but the things being mentioned are not why you hate bands. "I don't like thier music"... did that appear once in this thread?
Not that this is anything new for rock-and-roll. It's like those who champion classical music and think themselves above it enough to critique everything whether there's a valid reason or not.... only one group is drunk and stoned while the other is drunk and on cocain.

Saur cited musical reasons for not liking Creed. He summed it up pretty well.
1. Scott Stapp is an egotistical holier-than-thou born-again moron. My opinion here is based on seeing him in interviews on TV, seeing them live when they were promoting their 2nd album, and also based on the way that he portrays himself in videos.
2. Their music is crap. "One" is their only good song; there are a few others from the first album that are OK. Since the first album, their motto seems to be "if we turn up the distortion enough, nobody will be able to tell how much our music sucks."
3. I bought "Human Clay" before I saw them in concert, to get acquainted with it a bit so I'd know some songs at the concert. On top of that $15 and the $50 ticket price, I felt jipped out of a good two hours of concert time when Our Lady Peace and Oleander (the co-headliner and opening band, respectively) could have been playing.
So that's why I don't like Creed. :)
-
Saur cited their philosophy and eluded to "same three guitar chords" as the only "telent refference". 3 guitar chords is about 1 more than most bands play these days. I remember a reference to "The Police" that went: The band that knows 200 chords but only plays 3.
Alot of people don't like the religous overtones. That's fine and all... It's just funny to see people pretend that's not really it. Even to the point of dubbing anyone that likes the band as liking them because of their christian overtones (right octavius?).
I'm just trying to see justification for the rampant hatred of this band. It just doesn't make sense.
MiniD
-
Mini.
Creed's music is kinda like green beans.
Its hard to put your finger on 'why' but everyone hates them save the lone guy in the corner swearing his allegiance.
Its just empty. Fake. Phoney. Whatever word you need to use to describe it. The band puts on a facade of 'deep emotional torture' because it sells - not because its how they 'feel.'
-
Do you really want to use that as a criteria for not liking a band saur? Or just in this particular situation?
I understand not liking them. Music is purely taste. I just don't see the justification for the seething hatred that's been displayed in this thread. "I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some odd reason I loathe their very existance." It just doesn't quite work.
Not really much more to say on it other than suggesting you try a web search and find more reasons to hate them.

Don't lump me into that generalization. I don't even fit. You've misread my post, saying I accused christians for defending blindly a christian group, and you use that to generalize an entire "type of reason for hating this band."
I said: "Are you defending Creed as an actual fan or just because a few christian rock songs?" - A legitimate inquiry.
Then, without even proving your mislead generalization, you accept it and move on to the next 'point,' failing to realize you couldn't prove yourself right (or wrong) in the first place.

Why should I have to justify my preference, my personal like of music, for you?
I prefer to take a shit around 3pm daily. Is that ok with you, Mini? Or should I provide reasoning for that?
I'll quote myself again: "Attempting to justify and define universal terms for suckage won't work.
define hate.

I dont like Creed because I dont like Creed's music.
Im sorry my reasons for disliking Creed dont quite make the grade with you, Mini. Ill try harder next time in hopes of avoiding the usual questioning of my motivation. :aok

Anyone seen that episode of South Park (new one this season) where Cartman tries to start up a band and fails until he claims its Christian rock?
Thats the impression I've had of Creed since they first hit the scene.

Panthera broke up and you guys are arguing over some stupid one hit wonder ?
Oh humanity....
The reverend he turned to me
Without a tear in his eyes
It's nothing new for him to see
I didn't ask him why
I will remember
The love our souls had
Sworn to make
Now I watch the falling rain
All my mind can see
Now is your (face)
Well I guess
You took my mouth
I gave it all away
Like the birth of a
New-found joy
This love would end in rage
And when she died
I couldn't cry
The pride within my soul
You left me incomplete
Memories now unfold.
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the
Cemetery gates
Sometimes when I'm alone
I wonder aloud
If you're watching over me
Some place far abound
I must reverse my life
I can't live in the past
Then set my soul free
Belong to me at last
Through all those
Complex years
I thought I was alone
I didn't care to look around
And make this world my own
And when she died
I should've cried and spared myself some pain...
Left me incomplete
All alone as the memories still remain
The way we were
The chance to save my soul
And my concern is now in vain
Believe the word
I will unlock my door
And pass the cemetery gates

Saur.. there's what you said before I stepped in and what you say afterwards. It get's tuned a different way once things are highlighted.

lol MiniD, your little tirades get more bizarre everyday.
"Basically... whatever lets you sleep at night."
For a moment I thought people were discussing how they disliked some 3rd rate band, but going by your response they must have been trying to justify putting kittens in a microwave. Apologies - I must pay closer attention.

Dont hold it against him Dowding.
Hes still trying to salvage some dignity after the 6 inch heel lodged itself in his torso.
You shouldnt try so hard Mini, its unbecoming.
