HI folks, having a bit of an issue here.
Windows XP Home
2.2 gig 512mb ram
I'm trying to get my processes down to 19 and free up some resources to play AH.
Using cntrl alt delete I click on the process' tab and am having trouble disabling msmsgs.exe
I can disable it but in a few seconds it restarts. How do I disable this thing?
Am I out to lunch here? Have been having a problem with rubber bullets lately.
Also, when it is running I am seeing spikes of up to 60% CPU usage. This can't be normal.
Any ideas would be appreciated (use small words pls, I am an idiot).
cheers and thanks

remove it for good (use at your own risk)
Start/Run and type in(or copy and paste)
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
This removes windows(MSN) messenger from your PC.

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services is the place to disable the stuff Windows starts at boot time. Take care as there are services you can disable that will turn your computer into a large paperweight.

True for some services but msmgr is not controlled there as a service...

Just an update folks, I did a system restore to an earlier point, and everything is working fine now. I have no idea what was going on and Norton scans me clean.
Thanks for the replies.
Cheers,
