Everyone has different reasons or goals for playing this game.
I'm just curious as to what some of them are...
personaly i enjoy to comradere of all even the idiots:)
when i first started everything was strat and defense, i augered for hq or what ever was neded. i helped out when asked etc. then i realized i wasn't playing my game i was playing for everyone else...
now i dont mind helping or augering for a strat from time to time, but now only if i am sure its to win the war.
was just reading post on rank, personally i could care less about it, however,
i would like to end a tour in top 100 just once so if you all would hold still or fly strait with me your six and not shoot back then i might make it:)
my favorite is to fight really awesome 1v1s or 2 v1s without the bs.

A simple 300 kills a tour for me, not too tough, but then again, there is a fine line between havin fun and playin for #'s
Of the 12 A/C i fly...
C-Hog, Hellcat, P-38, P-51, A-20, B-17,
C-47, Lanc, Seafire, Hurri, La7 and Bf110
I like to pick out 1 or 2 to focus on per tour

Anymore it's hard to say what my goals are. Before it was as you said Sadist fighting someone elses fight.
In the 6 months I've been playing I find that the overall goal to win the war is not so much of a goal anymore. No matter how much time you put in to the war unless your there when the war is over you get nothing in return. That may sound selfish but everyone wants something in return for there hard work. And to top it off it seems with so many squadrons about you'd think more would be getting done in an organized fashion. I rarely see multiple squads linking up to fight a strategic fight. It's mass raids on one base and then they quit when they get any resistance.
I'll take the hammering for this but I"m a spitdweeb as some may say. I fly the Spitfires exclusively for the most part. My current goal is to fly it to the point of knowing it inside out and how to defeat any and all aircraft out there. I enjoy the one on one and one on two fights. They seem to be more gratifying than jumping into a mindless furball.

thats same with me Cobra, my first tour i did nothing but defend, defend defend,
it wasnt enjoying the game that much and at first i was frustrated because i didnt understand why no one was defending or strat etc.
now my game has changed and i enjoy it much more now that i just fly for fun etc.
right now my only major goal is to rank in top 100 just once:D
and of course to kill the la7s and nik pilots:rofl

Achieve fame by ranking so well so frequently that no one even checks anymore. I will be one of the Chosen and no matter what I do or say the Arschkriecher grovel at my virtual feet to bask in my reflected glow.
This has not worked out well for me.
Achieve infamy by becoming an outspoken, opinionated, and/or obnoxious persona in the game or on this BBS. I will be one of the Chosen and no matter what I do or say the Arschkriecher grovel at my virtual feet lest I cast my sardonic eye upon them.
This has also not worked out well for me.
Time to choose different goals. :D

done every other personal goal already, now I'd like to sit down once and land 100 or 150 or 200 kills, it'd be a nice round number..
A 200k/d in any plane would be cool. Probably not happening, but it's all I can hope for that I haven't done already.
Maybe line up Mitsu, Leviathan, Fester, WildThing and Fariz and Hitech on one vulch pass..

Side goals can make the game interesting. Like trying for X number of kills in X number of sorties. Or trying to get to X hit percentage in a fighter. Rank is most rewarding when it is a side benefit, and not the goal. The best goals force you to learn to fly better. My current tour goal has no numbers. It is more or less to be overagressive to see what I can get away with.

One goal is to get a hit % above 15% but I have a problem with the way shooting at bombers and c47's distort the percentage. I wish there was a way to omit certain plane types from hit percentage. Right now it probably less then 2% (if you take out the bombers I shot at), so its a long range goal :D
I'm also lucky to be in a squad with a great bunch of guys that take the game serious enough to put together missions, but not so serious to be in a funk all night if it fails. I do enjoy the comradre.
But what I absolutely love most are those unpredictable situations where incredible things happen in a fight. Not just winning a grossly outnumbered fight, but really weird stuff.
e.g., Shooting a b17 you kill 1 drone on first pass. You diving in steep on the second pass and you realize you have a pilot wound - oh great - here comes the auger. So you wait for the splat in the darkness, but it doesn't come. Instead you wake level on the B17's 6 tracers wizzing by, and you shoot down another of the remaining 2 :) The third starts turning and a bud kills it.
Or, your trying to clear a bud's six. Well someone saddles up on you and shoots your wing off. You kill the guy on your bud just before you accidently ditch! (Btw, though I had 1 wing I saw two wing mounted guns firing?)
So much fun a so, so unpredictable of what may actually happen in a fight. Course most times I just go boom :D

my goal keep at least 4-1 kill ratio
killing cons with least use of ammo
best was my 1st ever MA kill as non baby seal, was a b17 with a yak-u 2 cannon shells.
high number of kills in 109 without vulching

Second goal is to have fun... I think i have fun each time i fly, so i guess im succesful in both :D

My ultimate goal is to have fun but to keep the game interesting I do set myself little goals that I try to accomplish. I have no interest in personal rank so these little side goals are the things that keep me coming back to play.

My personal goal is as it has been for over a decade now in these types of games, simply....
To kick serious arse without getting my own arse kicked in the process and have fun while doing it =)
That is my definition of fun in Aces High.
