Title: Scooter found
Post by: Curval on January 05, 2004, 01:17:40 PM
Cops called last night.  They found it in perfect condition all locked up in the parking lot of a church (of all places).

Now I have two.

I bet the person who stole it had it locked better than you did.

Aren't bolt-cutters banned in Bermuda?  They could be used for evil, after all, like stealing well-locked scooters.  How'd the cops get that U-Lock (of course it was a U-Lock, right?) off?

  :D

Glad it worked out for ya.

It was locked to the church's ceramic garden gnome?

It is true Mini....why would he use a U-Lock or any additional locks on a bike he stole?  Where is the logic in that?

Apart from anything else having the key for his own lock would tend to tie him to the crime, don't you think?

It's me...or more accurately Slapshot's impression of me in Avatar form.

So yea...that devastatingly good looking guy in the avatar rides a scooter.

Curval, I hope you lerned a valuable lesson over all this- If misfortune befalls you, DON'T talk about it here. You'll get ridiculed to death.

Now who gets the second scooter? You should donate it to the very Church where it was recovered. I'll bet there's a Pastor praying they find another carelessly locked Scooter somewhere.

Tie him to the crime? LOL! You make it sound like there's an investigation going on.  Did they check it for fingerprints too?

You're funny curval.

Are you sure it isn't YOUR lock?  Maybe they just picked it up out of your yard and put it in a trucl?

What is so funny man?

They did take fingerprints.  This is a small island with only a few bike thieves.  If they could get a finger print they would pick the guy up in 5 minutes.  When they did so, having a key to the lock that the bike is locked with on his person would tend to incrimminate him. Comprende?

Your inability to think is funny.

Mickey...it was locked with my own key.

Have you guys forgotten already?  The thief broke into my car looking for change.  He found my set of keys in the compartment in bewteen the driver's seat and front passenger seat.  He unlocked my bike (handle lock only) and drove off.  It was found with the handle lock locked.

Just out of curiosity, does Burmuda have a single police force or multiple ones for different towns/counties?

That's too bad. I'm sure you would have preferred money from the insurance. Do you have to accept it back?

in mini-d's deffence, here they don't really investigate property crimes with individual citizens as the victim.  they just take a report and say "hope you have insurance"

I'm sure some people get their losses investigated, but nobody I know.  as a matter of fact if your car is stolen and they catch the guy driving it, they ussually jsut give him a ticket for 'unauthorised use of a motor vehicle', and let him go on foot.
so from our view-point the idea of a full investigation for a scooter theft is pretty unusual.

Looked it up online and saw 5 towns; in America, that's most likely five police forces, each with two or three officers. :)

Did you change the handle lock? Or are you going to leave it parked in the same place as before, only now the thief has the key? Just don't come whining to us if it happens again.

LOL! I didn't see the part later in that thread where you said he took your keys out of your car.  Maybe this time you could just hang them on a hook next to the bike and he won't have to break into your car.

I haven't got it back yet...and man are you ever starting to even WRITE like MiniD.  He has already told me to not come whining back on the boards if my new one is stolen.

You guys should get a room or something.

It is still unclear as to exactly what is going to happen.  The insurance company cut a cheque, apparently, but as of today I haven't received it.  If the cops inform them before the cheque is mailed then I keep the bike and the insurance company keeps the cash.  If they have mailed it the bike belongs to the insurance company.

I would rather the latter.

OK Curval admit it, the bike was never stolen.

You were badgering the minister or his wife whilst your better half was recovering from the latest baby arrival.

The scooter was part of the payment plan, the rest was just a cover story for the wife ;)

Actually even if the ins co. has paid off on the "Scooter " you may have the option to buy it back for pennies ...

We did this when the Mrs Roos car was stolen and thrashed ,she got her loan paid off and we kept the car .

Possibly, but I don't need to license and insure two of 'em.

The old one is a POS...the new one is great.

lol!

Curv, scooters rock.  Not like riding a large bike, but they're fun nonetheless.  Glad you got it back!

So what kind of evil mastermind is behind this?  Some guy breaks into your car looking for spare change!?  Hehe, the bums around here aren't THAT desperate.  Such a small island.. if he's convicted, they should allow you to deliver a swift kick in the crotch as punishment.

ya the system is pretty screwed up.  someone breaking into your car wont see a minute of jail time,  however if you catch him and..um..express a bit of anger, they will deffinately find jail space for you.

if they aren't going to enforce the law at least they should stay out of your way when you handle it yourself.

Curval - good to know that you got the scooter back, especially as it means the thief no longer has it.

How does this affect your insurance? If the insurance company paid out on your original loss, does this mean you have to give up the scooter that was found so they can sell it and recover their loss to some degree?

Or will you be keeping quiet about its recovery? ;)

I tried to call the insurance company today...no answer and no call back.  Insurance fraud is not something I need to get convicted of.;)

I have not seen a cheque yet, so I think I will end up with the old bike and lose the insurance money.

did they tell you to buy a replacement?  if you've already come to an agreement with them they should have to stick to it.  I don't think they can stick you with the extra scooter.
