A closed office door, a platoon commander sitting at a desk, a medic in the cornor with IV ready, and the threat of neverending phsysical repayment are in his future.

 Err... You probably are.

Liberals are allowed to be (or pretend to be) literate, to read (or pretend reading) the opponent's works as long as they disagree.

Neo-Conservatives are not allowed to read any evil literature. In fact, the literacy is not encouraged. You have countless "conservative" talk-show hosts. You have a people and even a leader who talks directly to God.

The books are either contrary to God - and thus evil, or redundant. The only exception is the books by talk-show hosts repeating what they said on the air for those who missed it.
You only get minor demerit buying such book - for flaunting your literacy and admitting that you've missed the shows.

What does crossing one's fingers in a photograph mean...
How is that a snub....
If he was showing the finger... ok... that's universal...

You Clinton haters... are grasping.

Besides she probably blew him in the bath room earlier and he's just crossing his fingers hoping he does not to get some  STD from that skanky ho.

I'm sure you have seen people who say something they don't mean cross their fingers. Well, maybe that's what the soldier is doing. He's acting happy to having a snapshot taken with Hillary but by crossing his fingers maybe he is signifying that he really isn't.

Since most of us didn't serve in the Navy (whew), you should not count on us to understand Navy slang.  If you had used the term "officer" instead of "zero", maybe the rest could have understood your inference.

The smile on Hillary’s face remind me of Sally Fields Oscar acceptance speech, when she babbled, “I can't deny the fact that you like me! You really like me!” For Norma Rae (1979)

Squids have their on vocabulary....

Never understood why they only have powder soap on ship until a former squid informed me with a wierd smile - "it takes longer to pick up!"

Being former Air Force, I had heard rumors about squids... but his smile made me uneasy so I didn't inquire what he ment by that.

Somebody already covered it above, but it references the fact that enlisted paygrades are E1, E2, E3, etc., while officers are O1, O2, O3, etc.

Navy Ensign:  O1

O = zero

zero = what most enlisted personal think of most officers below O4.

Never heard an Officer referred to as a zero in the AF. That "O" is a letter "O" and not a zero btw.

Heard 'em called plenty other names though. :)

The Clinton Administration took the opportunity to balance its budget disproportionately on the backs of the regular military. The Navy hemorrhaged ships, especially the ones needed to support operations around the world; most importantly, the Army disbanded combat divisions wholesale (16 in 1991, 10 today, many of which are intentionally shorthanded, and brought up to strength with Reserve and National Guard units); likewise, the Air Force shed combat wings and aircraft at an alarming rate.

While our troops are pretty demonstrably the best in the world, they are spread too thin, largely due to the false economies of the Clinton Administration.

After the final build up during the Reagan years and the end of the cold war, the cuts had to come. The cuts were important and necessary. Did the cuts go too far? It's possible, but the cuts have forced the defense department to streamline and better utilize the assets available.

In the late eighties and early nineties, the DoD practically hemorraged money. We've all heard the stories of $600 hammers and $1000 toilet seats. It's not that way today, even with the increases to the defense budget.

"I am writing too, in the hope the my telling this one story will help you to understand more clearly how so many fine people have come to find themselves still loving their country but loathing the military"

Just remember this rule;  i before e, except after c, or sounded as "a" as in neighbor and weigh. But then you already know how to spell receive. ;)

Saying the President is sole responsible for the build up or bulid down of the armed forces is the same as saying he has anything to do with DOW going up and down day to day.

The planners at the Pentagon make these decisions... and they are confirmed by the Congress, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and then Finally the President is INFORMED and a recommendation is made.

And if it twerent for the planning of the Pentagon and funding by the US congress DURING the Clinton Administartion, Bush would not have the special forces, the predator, and the digital combat technology which the troops used to succesffully execute the Afghanistan and Iraq campaignes.

A commander in chief leads a military built by those who came before him. There is little that he or his defense secretary can do to improve the force they have to deploy. It is all the work of previous administrations. Decisions made today shape the force of tomorrow...... and when that war [Gulf War I] ended, the first thing I did was place a call to California, and say thank you to Ronald Reagan.

“No guesses?.. It was Defense Sec. Cheney. I wonder if Rummy called Clinton to thank him?”

For what, trimming down the standing Army from sixteen divisions to ten? There were more combat divisions plus independent brigades deployed in the first Gulf War, than makes up our entire present day Army. This doesn’t take in account the allied units that fought along side our own.

US combat divisions involved in the drive to Baghdad numbered four. Had Iraq’s military put up an organized fight, four divisions may not have been enough and our losses would have been higher.

A quote from Hillary on troop deployment in Iraq.

“We never had enough troops for the kind of stability and security mission that we were expected to perform," Las Vegas Sun Jan 5, 2003

Gee I wonder why. What are we going to do, put all ten divisions in Iraq? I sometime wonder if she ever heard of the Clinton administration.

MT, let me ask you a question, why do you admirer so much? What has she done?

As one of the Senators in my state she has done zip. Sure, she comes into town from time to time for fundraisers. Giving that same old “I feel your pain crap” and babbles about wanting to do this and that. Funny thing though, she’d on TV a lot more often for national problems that she is for this state.

Polls have come out in the last few months that are showing a trend. If either Giuliani or Golisano runs against her in 06 she may be looking for a new state to live in.
