One of the most heard questions on vox and in the text buffer every time we are logged in is: "What sector is that in?" Particularly with the new large maps. The field numbering is illogical, Captain...
I don't know anything about AH mapmaking, but since we are in a transition, is it possible to make a system so the field designation indicates the grid location?
Since everything starts from the bottom left origin, how about this? Numeric left to right and Alpha bottom to top.
1C 2C 3C
1B 2B 3B
1A 2A 3A
The field designation could relate to the map coordinates. A single field would simply be the map grid and multiple fields in the same grid would have a suffix indicating keypad within the grid.
I know 50 experts will immediately criticize this suggestion as being historically incorrect, insubordinate, politically unacceptable, dweebish and 'gaming the game,' so please remember that it is just an idea...

I would be happy if they just had names. But still a nice idea

Yes Base names.
We could have squad duels to claim base names.

Naming bases will give things a much more viceral feel. Knights capture 123 means nothing. Rooks Capture New Coventry.....now thats FLAVOR!
