Title: Live For Speed - any veterans?
Post by: StSanta on January 08, 2004, 09:40:58 AM
Just paid for S1 after trying out the demo. Played it first with mouse and now I have a borrowed wheel/pedal thing. My times (without ay of the "help" things but autoclutch) are actually worse than with the mouse.

Admittedly, I got a lot of learning to do and I expect I'll soon be much faster.

Any AH'ers play the game? Perhaps someone will show me the ropes/ideal racing line/speed/brake points etc?

Would be cool.

This racing game is the closest to "reality" of any I've played, with the exception being Grand Prix Legends. Amazing that only three dudes could have gotten it this good - sort of like it's amazing AH is what it is, considering how few work on it.

And I like the fact that they told Electronic Arts to bugger off when they came with an offer, because EA wouldn't give them total control :)

Well, off to race. I love that GTi.

Edit: I saved some lap data - file name "test.raf". Looked under LFS folder/raf, coudln't find it there. Or anywhere else. Where should I look?

I still play it occasionally, but I've gotten kinda bored with it. If there were more more cars and rally-x tracks I'd play it more.

I think the best thing you can do to get faster is watch replays of the world record laps (download them from the lfs site in the world records section). That will show you the ideal brake points and what speed to carry through the corners. Braking a little earlier allows alot more room for error in the turn and doesnt increase your lap time all that much.

Alot of wheel users set maximum steering lock to 45 and I'd recommend trying that.

.raf files should be in the raf folder. You have to select output lap data on the lap previous to the one you want the data for. So if you want data for lap 4 you have to click the button on lap 3, then wait for lap 4 to finish. If you did that then I dont know what the problem is.

I have it too, neat game.  I would drive it but I get more wood from games with models of real tracks, with cars that are faster than my road car.
