Title: errror message on startup

on start up of the beta 9 version i get an error message saying "could not initialize -3mainGR3D_FAILED-1" or something to that effect, what's going on?

You need to post your system specs, including directx version & vidio driver version. My guess would be you dont have current dx version, you need 8.1 or higher.
