Title: It's NOT COLD outside.
Post by: StSanta on January 11, 2004, 04:22:13 PM
Just thought I'd clarify. Only wussies think it's cold outside.

Us *real men* don't think it's cold. Nope. For us, -17F/-27C is a mere chilly breeze.

We're not cold and it's not cold outside.

Really?

Let's see.... thermax "longjohn" underwear, flannel shirt, fleece vest, uninsulated goretex jacket, cotton/poly hunting pants, heavy sox, insulated boots, hat and goatskin gloves. Fingers got cold after about 30 minutes though... that was the worst. As long as you keep walking, it's no problem. I found swinging your arm in a large circle forces now and then some warmer blood into your fingertips. It's doable. But I'm glad we circled back to the truck every once in a while.

;)

Well I probably wouldn't do it now as I'm getting old & cautious.

But I walked 3.25 miles to town in -37 below for a drink & a pack of smokes once.  Had my drink, warmed up a bit then turned around and walked back.

You don't want to break a sweat at those temps.  :)

I was thinking the same thing. On Saturday it was minus 25 and my truck would not start. Its a diesel and I had not pugged it in. So I dressed just as you said (including some really cheap gloves) and walked 6k to the beer store and the supermarket to get some supplies for dinner.

I might dress like the picture if I was skiing or snowmobiling and was going to be going 60kph but for a walk outside? Pleezze.

Yeah. Since the advent of freefly and digital cameras, the role as "cameraman" has been blurred significantly. There's less risk and the new cams require less skill, so very often freefliers have their own camera, just to get cool shots.

Oh we do use the excuse that "we're gonna be in a competition in XXXXX days, so that's why we just had to get the camera. It's for serious purposes"

Mia: the guy taking the picture wasn't about to fly to 14 000 feet
