Business Management

But I have chosen to take an elective class on Labor Relations partly because of our talks before. First week of class we discusssed a case on Eastern Airlines, Borman and Bryan, and I thought that was a nice coiuncidence. :)

Airlines? Well, if you need to do a paper on Airline misManagement, give me a shout. My brother worked for Eastern starting in '72, went with the Shuttle to Trump, then was subordinated to US Air when Trump dumped the Shuttle, then was absorbed by US Air when they actually bought the Shuttle. He's now watching US Air go down in flames. He was also the Union MEC Chairman at the Trump Shuttle.

You wanna hear how screwed up the airline labor relations are? I know he'll be glad to chat with you.

I can only tell you about starting to work for a great, solidly profitable airline in 1980. Back then, there was a little corporate seal in the middle of the paychecks with these words circled around them. "All airlines are the same. Only the people make the difference." Then around 1985, a VP of Personnel became our CEO. Those words immediately came off our paychecks. Shortly thereafter, my airline became just like the other majors and is now suffering a similar fate. I can give you my views on how that happened. ;)

Good luck to you. If you remember that all folks are really the same as you are with the same wants and needs..... you'll do OK as a manager. Everybody wants a nice place to live, food on the table, nice clothes for the kids and wife. It's when you start thinking you as a "Manager" are endowed with some special aura that you'll screw up.

Have fun and remember these words from an immortal Navy buddy of mine:

"Now hear this. Life. THIS IS NO DRILL!"

In other words, don't forget to stop and take that trout fishing trip to Wyoming with your kid. You only get one pass at this.

I know. :) Still I was really proud of that 4.0 :)

No offers yet, but I'm working on it.

Eventually. My goal is to get into some consulting work for a few years and then get the MBA.

Yea MT I know consulting is demanding and I also and prolly still am considering sales but I think consulting is better since I always liked to create things and I'm not sure I would have that opportunity in sales.
