The O'Club game of Diplomacy has finally ended in an amicable two-country draw between Germany and France. What started out as a cordial but wary discussion in the beginning, turned into a powerful alliance that was, with the timely help of the Archduke of Austria, able to swing the balance of power in their favor, and ultimately defeat the nearly as powerful alliance of Turkey and Russia.
I can't tell you how entertaining and educational it was to read the correspondence between countries. One thing I've learned more than anything else, is that the rulers who communicate often and with everyone in the early stages of the game, are often the most successful.
An interesting thing happened when King Schadenfreude abdicated early on, in that his replacement, King Raubvogel, was not immediately courted by all the powers. He was desperately looking for someone to ally with, and yet only one person, Sultan Crabofix, took him under his wing and prolonged the life of his country because of it.
Special salutes to Kaiser Sandman and President Tarmac for being able to remain allies, while resisting the gentle prodding from the game master to perhaps consider a stab. :)
Well done, gentlemen. It was a highly entertaining game!
