Title: A-20 Wing/Bay Bomb Indicators
Post by: Halo on January 18, 2004, 01:34:42 PM
Could the A-20G add a simple W or B suffix (or E or Ext for External and I or Int for Internal suffix) or something like that in the weapon selection indicator to show whether the Wing or Bomb Bay bombs are selected?

I validated in the training arena that there is no distinction.  Lack of that is confusing.  Several times have made initial bomb runs without opening the bomb bay doors thinking the wing bombs would come off first, but they come off second after the internal bombs (just the opposite of what I thought).

And even if you try to select the wing bombs first, there is no indication to show whether wing bombs or bomb bay bombs are selected.

Yes, the simple solution, which I have done, is to open the bomb bay doors before any bomb run, but this seems unrealistic and unnecessary for wing bombs, particularly if bomb bay door drag is modelled (which I don't know).

Presumably this bomb location distinction also should apply to other aircraft that carry bombs both externally and internally.

I fully agree that some type of indication is needed to determine what bombs you are about to drop. Of course I bet there are those hotshots out there that will tell us to memorize what drops first;) But I sometimes forget what I have selected in battle, and often find myself ready to pickle, and get that danged message that my dorrs arn't open, lol.

It's worse than you think. :)

After you select the external load, if you jump to guns and back, the default internal bombs are selected.

In the Ju88, just the opposite happens.

I agree an indicator is needed.
I usually load the 250s on the wings and 500s in the bay, that way they show in the indicator.  Less likely to rip your wings off doing this too.

Still want an indicator, but that's a great work-around, MOSQ.
