I'm only half-Welsh and live in England.  Was in Cardiff in November and it was okay.  It's the whole British weather, it's very unpredictable but the better warmer/dryer months are often May, June, July & August.  Having said that the weather has been quite forgiving lately and the temperatures have been increasing.

So... take a gamble! :)  Summer daytime temps are around 22 deg C to 30 deg C.

Look out for Revvin, I think he lives in Cardiff.

Take waterproof clothing, your own food (unless you like Leeks) and a bobble hat - you'll be fine.

10 things to note about Wales:

1) Nice countryside

2) Worst football hooligans evar, but because they are not English they are ignored

3) Huge chip on shoulder about being crap at Rugby

4) Small but determined political movement concerned with turning Wales into a third world country (otherwise known as Independence from England)

5) Wonderful place to set-up factories if you're foreign and fancy some UK government money, which can then be syphoned out of the country before you close down said factory due to 'an unfortunate downturn in the global economy'

6) Nice people apart from Cardiff City football fans and my old flatmate, Sue

7) Nice pubs with nice beer (generally)

8) Catherine Zeta Jones

9) Err...

10) That's it!

Prices from Heathrow to the States have been really cheap lately, as low as $350 just for a return flight.  Do a search for budget airlines which will still list the big airlines.

$1900? whew that's high. A quick look at BA's website threw up a return flight to London for $593 in May/June from Dallas. You could also try flying to Manchester, that's close to Wales.

check out ebookers.com (http://www.ebookers.com/myebooker/).

This is two way price thought in wrong way from GB->US->GB but guess the price won't change much if you fly US-GB-US.

Friends used Ebooker when they flew from Finland to San Francisco and back (changed plane at Le Gaulle); whole trip was about 400$/traveller IIRC.
I'm planning a small trip too and price came down from 1700$ to 500$...

Thinks!!! You know at those prices. It would be worth my while going on a trip to Dallas. Never been to Texas.
This is a good year to travel to and from the US with the dollar so low and competitive fares because of the fear factor. Aer Lingus here is offering one way flights for 78 Euro or $99 in February to and from the east coast. 99 Euro to LA. I've paid that to get to London in the past.  It's almost cheaper to have a weekend in New York than here in Ireland.

There are some bargains to be had at the moment.

My daughter is in Cardiff area (uni) and i can safely say that it rains and it rains, and when it rains it hammers it down.
She complained last time i saw her that it gets depressing as the clouds seem to never lift from some of the valleys for day after day.
Summers better though :)

Nice countryside and if your into castles etc Cardiff area has a lot.

Ooops Mr Black, heading for a black eye 'look you' as they say in Wales. First off Welsh girls are not English. She could be an English girl living in Wales. But if she is Welsh, she sure won't appreciate you calling her English. Same goes for Scottish women and men only more so.

As for what they are like, well I'm not British but from my experience the Welsh can be.......well different. Friendly for the most part though. The southern part of Wales has more English influences. North Wales is very Welsh and many people speak Welsh as a first language and want independance from England. Dowdings snooty comment that it would turn into a third world country is just typical of the certain kind of Englishman that he is. The one who thinks that only the English know how to run things where as everyone knows it's really the Scots who run Britain ;) ;).  :D  (Gordon Brown etc)

If you get into the valleys up north be prepared for startling low level jet flypasts as the RAF use Wales for training newbies.

mrblack, I drove through southern Wales several years ago, going from London to Fishguard for the ferry to Ireland.

Driving through Brecon Beacon National Park on an S road was one the most delightful experiences I've ever had.  Picturesque can't begin to describe it.  It was magical.  At one point, as my wife and I were driving along, Holst's 'The Planets' came on the radio.  We continued driving for about 20 minutes, transported by the combination of music and scenery until, spontaneously, we looked at each other and burst into gales of delighted laughter.  I doubt either of us will ever forget that moment.

It's true cpxxx. If it weren't for English tax payers, Wales would be like Lichenstein or Andorra. ;) If it weren't for central government subsidies and incentives, Wales would be an unemployment wasteland. It has a crap infrastructure and is away from the main distribution networks for the UK market. It's also interesting how English MPs can't vote on solely Welsh matters, but Welsh MPs can vote on solely English issues. Same goes for NI and Scotland.

My experience of Welsh women is limited to just two. One was a pain, the other was cool. I wouldn't want to make generalisations, but I doubt they would like to meet a guy who pretends to be a l33t sniper on an internet BBS. :aok

Frankly, Yorkshire has a bigger population than Wales, arguably just as strong cultural identity, superb infrastructure and economic conditions for manufacturing investment, yet Wales gets the subsidies and the 'regional assembly'. :lol
