Happened to me last week. There I was getting ready to drop on the town. Then BOOM! What the hell???? A few hours latter I was looking at my stats. Funny thing, I had been killed once by a 262. I dont remember engaging a 262. Hmmm. The point is, are you sure there was no one else around? Also, had you been into a fight a few minutes before?
Non of these explains what happened to your friend since you were behind him and you would have seen the enemy if one was around, but it sounded similar to what happened to me.

and are you sure all the ack was down? possible a manned ack was up & you don't see the tracers.

Film, film, film..... then watch your films on the Film viewer and you might be surprised...... ;)

I heard you talking about it on squad chan, but there was so mach talk on range that did not get a chance to see your name. Now that you mention it, I remeber the conversations, but I was not close enough to see it (it was last night over 41 or 44, right?)

Some of my squaddies & I had a strange occurance. We were defending a port and were being attacked by invisible ships. (this was on the pizza map). It was dawn, so we thought the ship would appear as the sun came up, but it didn't.
I upped a P-47 to bomb it from another base, but it was still invisible. The funny thing was watching a Spitty take off - it just showed up over the water. Well, I went down to take a shot at him figuring the ack would take me out, but it never happened - there was not any ack at all. I ended up shooting this guy several times as he was taking off.
One of my squaddies switched sides to see what was up & said when he got on the carrier, it was plowing through the desert, not water.
Definitely wierd. I think a couple of us recorded it, but I haven't gotten around to watching the film.

While we're on the subject, can anyone explain this one??
My wingman and I are rtb, no dots in sight, friend or foe. Tom is about 2.5 behind me.
All of a sudden, 'ping-ping-ping' and I'm going down in flames. Tom is dumbfounded. He was right behind me, my plane clearly visible in front of him, when I suddenly burst into flames and fell to earth. He saw no other planes, anywhere. No did I when I frantically looked back as I was getting hit.
I bailed, and someone or other got credit for shooting me down. I called him on Ch1, but he was convinced it was just a clever bounce. Tom swears to this day there was no other plane in the sky.
This also happened to one of my squadies about a month ago. Ever happen to any of you?

cant say it has, most of the time it ended up being manned ack but in these cases...
looks like we got Foo-fighters here in ah

About a year ago, there was a problem with my lynksys router, where as I'd be flying along and about 15 minutes into my flight, I'd disapear to all those around me, even though I could still see them and interact with them, but once they left icon range, they were lost for good. This would happen with nme too. Mean while I was "Cloaked" i could drop troops, kill, drive vehicles, blow up town buildings, and not be effected by ack... it was the best "error" ever. But considering this unfair it was reported and taken care of. Hopefully this isn't happening again. But like I said, it can't be used as an effect "cheat" against other players (only objects, or enemy in Icon range when it occurs) and was never a widespread problem, which I assume was taken care of.

Stay out of the Bermuda triangle.
I put up signs on the perimeter. :D

Exact same thing happened to me the other day. I was in my pony with alt (as always:D ). I dive in on Nord1 and his niki buddy. I go for the rope and he dosen't buy, so I zoom back up. Before I know it, BOOM! It didn't say who or what shot me down. I was nowhere near an ack and even Nord1 admitted that he didn't even get a shot near me. Needless to say, I was mad! I've been shot down by hurri's, stukas, and even been roped by a C-47, but I've never been shot down by the air----until now
Oh well, back to climbing to 30k again:aok

There have been times in the past where the server got sort of screwy with the way packets were reported. The last time something like this happened I was flying German rides all the time and I ended up loosing a 190D9 5 times in a row one night taking off far away in formation with buddies. The plane would just disappear and I would end up in the tower. Then one day it was gone apparently its back again and HT needs films of it guys.

The Bird-of-Prey, with its various sub-classes, is the Klingon Empire's most common light warship from the end of the 23rd century to the 2370's. The ship has one torpedo tube in the bow and two disruptor cannons at the wing tips. The wings are usually horizontal in flight mode, and swept down for attack. Ships of the K'Vort and the B'rel class have occasionally been witnessed to fire with horizontal wings, though. "D-12" is a Federation designation for a sub-class of Birds-of-Prey. The wings may be moved up to allow the ship to land on a planet. All types of Birds-of-Prey are equipped with a cloaking device.
Known ships
IKC Buruk
IKS Ch'Tang
IKS Etam
IKS Hegh'ta
IKS Ki'tang
IKS Korinar
IKS Koraga (K'Vort)
IKS M'Char
IKS Malpara
IKS Ning'tao
IKS Orantho
IKC Pagh
IKS Rotarran
IKS Slivin
IKC Vorn
IKS Y'tem
"HMS Bounty"
Class specifications
Scout (B'rel), cruiser (K'Vort)

Crew complement: 12 (scout), 36 (cruiser)
Max. speed: Warp 8 (sustainable), Warp 9.8 (short-term, old scale)

If you go past the mutral zone, you may encounter one of these. (25,000 perks and up)
Romulan Warbird
The Romulan Warbird, D'Deridex class. A massive ship, twice the size of a Galaxy class vessel. The ships have ben seen in TNG, DS9 and even VOY. In DS9 they helped the Federation and Klingons fight against the Dominion. Warbirds are heavily armed with strong shields, 6 disruptors and 2 photon torpedo launchers. They are also equipped with a cloaking device.
Drenet Class
Little is known about this vessel as it has rarly been seen. One was found crashed on a moon, but it had self destructed. The vessels are 91m in length and carry 80 crew. They can travel at warp 5 and presumably have cloaking capabilities. Armaments are unknown.
Griffin Class
Known only as the Griffin class, nothing is known about this vessel as it has never been seen in real life by Starfleet. It is presumed it will have average weapons and shields aswell as a cloaking device.
Shrike Class
The Shrike Class has 2 forward disruptor cannons and a forward plasma torpedo launcher. It is probably a safe bet that this class, like many of the Romulan ships, carries a cloaking device.

Had this happen on Big Isles ...
A squaddie just logs in and says that he is going to launch from CVwhatever. Myself and another squaddie (we were already logged on) type in .move xx. Looking from the tower, we see that the CV is steaming thru a small island just off A44 I believe, and are unable to launch from the CV.
We ask the other squaddie if he took off from the CV and where does he see it ? His FE showed the CV in the upper right hand area of the map (way up north). We can see friendly bar dar show where he launched, but not his dot, nor the CV.
We log off and log back in and low and behold, the CV is exactly where he said it was and it was not steaming thru the island anymore.
Needless to say, this anomoly seems to be ocurring more often than I thought.

I figured it out.... If I up an IL2 with 100% fuel from a land base
I appear to be invisible to all other planes... Has to be an IL2 and needs 100% fuel... anything less wont work..ohhh also full ordinance loadout too..
Try this tonight about 7:00PM EST I will tell you if it worked for you or not :)
