Speed camera clocks motorist at 406 mph

Since we Brits already hold the land speed record as a result of jet-powered Thrust SSC going supersonic in 1997, it seems only natural that we should attempt to be the first nation to break the sound barrier with a petrol-driven reciprocating-engined vehicle.
That at least appears to be what sales manager Peter O’Flynn was attempting when clocked at an impressive 406mph (653kmph) by a speed camera in Cheshire.
The achievement becomes even more admirable when we learn that Peter was at the time at the controls of a humble Peugot 406, until now thought to have a top speed of 129mph.
Heroic Peter is modest about his tremendous effort, insisting: "I rarely speed and it’s safe to say I’ll contest this." Officials, however, say Mr O’Flynn still faces prosecution despite the obvious attack of insanity which afflicted it speed (sorry, safety) camera.
This superb piece of bureaucratic madness is just the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of the government's war against speeding motorists. We look forward with eager anticipation to police slapping the cuffs on the first OAP to reach hypersonic velocities in a battery-powered disabled buggy.

I have formed a paramilitary group to tackle 'Safety' cameras. Armed only with old tires, petrol, a length of chain and a 4x4, we shall seek vengeance against the bastards who form the Safety Camera Partnerships, by destroying their means to wage war on the humble motorist.

dowding... don't you realize that the cameras are there for your own good? You could hurt yourself if you speed.

That's what the rutabagas who form these Safety Camera Partnerships say.
The only thing I've hurt is my wallet. After 7 years of driving I was zapped twice in 3 months, towards the end of last year - £120 ($200) fines, 6 points out of 12 (12 penalty points and you get an automatic ban), increased insurance and distinct decrease in respect for both the police and the bastards in London who decided to allow the police to keep the revenue from cameras (i.e. we get an explosion in camera population, surprisingly).
And now they want to add a surcharge to the speeding fines to pay compensation to all victims of crime!!!! So if I get caught again, I'll have to pay compensation for some rapist's crime!!!!
Come the revolution....

you let your momma tell yu what to do and this is what you get... you think that government is there to solve your problems and this is what you get... you use government to take away freedoms you don't care about and they eventually get to you.
revolution? I don't think it is possible in the fat countries like ours and yours.

I'm not a socialist. I'm a moderate who believes in standing on your own two feet. But if things go awry (and sometimes they do), people should be helped to get back into the loop, not dispensed with or thrown on the scrap heap. The real enemy is abuse of the system, corruption, inefficiency and waste, not the system itself.
You're right about revolution though. Not the British way, you know. Far too polite for that kind of thing. We've learned to say 'thankyou' when someone rips the arse out of our wallets.

I think that guy and his humble Peugeot 406 should be acquired into Formula races... it'd be a sure winner.

My old 307 (http://www.kolumbus.fi/staga/peugeot307.jpg) is already two years old but it has only 20k km in the odometer. Gotta see if I can get a new job and I'll buy me a new 407 :)
