Iams Partners With Leading Anti-Hunting Organization

The Iams Company, maker of Iams and Eukanuba pet foods, has joined forces with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest anti-hunting organization.
The company is helping sponsor the Pet Fest America tour, a series of animal shows in major metropolitan areas, nationwide. The shows were developed by HSUS. They debuted in early 2003 and will continue through April 2004.
“Sportsmen, and in particular sporting dog owners, understand the threat HSUS poses to hunting, field training and other activities,” said Bud Pidgeon, president of the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Iams has fallen into the same trap as some other businesses and it needs to be educated.”
Companies such as General Mills, Accor Hotels, Pet Safe, Sears, and Ace Hardware ended relationships with HSUS after thousands of sportsmen levied strong protest.
“The Pet Fests are basically pet owner education and welfare events and also serve to educate and entertain consumers,” Kelly Vanasse, Iams associate director of external affairs told the Alliance. “We also sponsor Ducks Unlimited, AKC and other events. We try to strike a balance.”
Iams clearly doesn’t understand how sportsmen will view its support for the nation’s largest anti-hunting organization.
“We are currently fighting HSUS attempts to ban dove hunting in Wisconsin, bear hunting in Maine and Alaska, and other anti-hunting threats around the country,” said Pidgeon. “Iams is adding legitimacy to HSUS’s efforts.”
The National Animal Interest Alliance was among those who alerted the Alliance of the issue.
Take Action! Sportsmen across the nation should contact Iams and educate them about HSUS’s goals to end hunting, fishing, trapping and other forms of animal use. Contact President Jeffery P. Ansell, The Iams Company, 7250 Poe Ave., Dayton, OH 45414. Phone (937) 898-7387. Fax (937) 264-7264. Toll Free (800) 675-3849.

Hey, alright. I've been feeding my dog nothing but IAMS for twelve years now.

What a great dog food made by a great company. Think I'll stop by the grocery store and pickup another bag of IAMS tonight. :)

It's cheaper to just feed them girlscouts.  It's like home delivered pet food because they come to YOUR door.

Don't blame me, Rip. If the hunters in Minnesota were worth their salt, they wouldn't let that one deer get away, that then ended up as my new hood ornament last fall. My faith in hunters has been shaken since then. Can you blame me?

is your noodle that small that you need to shoot a animal while hiding in a bush 20 yards away to feel like a big man?

jeez if i ever went hunting it would be with a knife and a piece a rope. At least make it a challenge.

I think just being out in the woods alone would probably overwhelm your senses frog.  If all you had was a knife and a rope you would likely starve to death in short order or just hang yourself to end the suffering :aok

you guys remember those photos making the rounds last year, of a guy in a big red pickup with a deer propelled halfway through the front windshield embedded into the passenger seat?  Yup, one good shooting hunter could have saved that guy some grief.

As for Iams, Ive always considered their brand of mystery meat way overpriced to begin with, I mean....if my dog can devour and digest leather, rocks, plastic, chickenwire, birds, cats, skunk etc etc why spend rich mans money on dog food?

So I will join this boycott with a hunters early morning grin :p

Now that you mention it, I am hung like a gerbil. But thats not the reason I like to hunt. And trust me its alot tougher than just hiding in a bush and shooting a cute little fury animal a few yards away.
