In ah2, when you are low to the ground the terrain looks fantastic. However, today I climbed very high in my pony and It was an eyesore to look at the terrain.
There are a couple problems with high altitude in ah2:
Squares. There are too many of them. The terrain looks square, the trees are square. In festerma one of the knight airfield islands (forget which airfield #) looked like 5 square blocks put together from 15k. Not to mention the trees were blinking squares.
Visibilty: very low visibility in ah2 for some reason. From 20k in a b17 it would be very difficult to bomb. However, maybe low visibilty would require more accurate navigation in bombing...but still, at high altitudes I feel like I am surrounded by white and all I can see is a single square island-tile beneath me.
I would also like to note one of the visibility options should have trees visibible until 7k or so...you don't need trees at high alt, but the current options make them disappear at low altitude which is kinda weird-looking.

Well I agree with you on the squary thing, but the visibility can be adjusted, it's the fog. The visibility can be in/decreased in the setup.
