Just wondering what the "rules" are for a ditch. I have been on the runway with engine off, clicked on the tower, and gotten a "You have ditched." Tonight, I was on a rearm pad, was already refueled, got a call for help.....so I figured I would switch airfields and help. Got a "You have ditched." What's the deal?

Hi
I think it has to do with where your wheels are, if they are all on the blacktop runway youll get a good landing. But if any on them is on the sand colored turf on the sides you will get a ditch. At least thats what I have noiced.

If you are on runway = 'you have landed successfully'
If you are not on runway = 'you have ditched'
I've landed a crippled b17 with no undercarriage or working engines on the runway several times and got the 'successful landing' message. Works every time (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

I often taxi to a hangar after landing....or taxi off the runway onto taxi way. Never get a ditch, always a good landing.
I lost my radiator the other night, landed in a field and after much switching on & off of engine I made it to a vehicle base in my spit. Taxied into the VH and got a "good landing"
